Görz/Gorizia/Nova Gorica war 2025 europäische Kulturhauptstadt.

1946 wurde die Stadt zwischen Italien und Jugoslawien geteilt, die Grenze verlief quer über den Vorplatz des alten Bahnhofs. Im Bahnhof ist heute das "Museum an der Grenze", das Fotos aus der Zeit des Kalten Kriegs und der Grenzbeseitigung bei der EU-Osterweiterung 2004 zeigt. Heute ist hier eine jederzeit überquerbare Schengen-Binnengrenze. Und der grenzüberschreitende Busverkehr wurde 2025 auch verstärkt.
