Das Kloster Prodromos (Monastery of St John the Baptist) klammert sich wie ein Schwalbennest an die Felswand der Lousios-Schlucht. Gegründet im 12. Jhd, diente es Mönchen jahrhundertelang als Rückzugsort und Zuflucht. Die aus Stein und Holz erbauten Zellen scheinen direkt aus dem Stein zu wachsen. Der schmale Pfad dorthin führt über einen uralten Maultierweg, der bis heute der einzige Zugang zu diesem Ort ist.

Die Lousios-Schlucht zeigt sich von oben als tief eingeschnittenes Tal, das sich zwischen steilen Felswänden windet. Jahrtausende hat der Fluss gebraucht, um sich durch das Gestein des arkadischen Hochlands zu graben. Nebel hängt morgens oft zwischen den Hängen, wodurch die Abgründe wie verschleiert wirken. Der Blick hinab reicht weit über Olivenhaine und graue Kalkwände bis zu den entlegenen Winkeln am Grund der Schlucht.

An early morning view into Barranco De Las Vacas, on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. The position of the sun above determines the colour perception, so at this early morning time before the sunlight penetrates, the predominant colouring is shades of grey. Loosely translated the name means "ravine of the cows", although no such animals are present now. The short narrow gorge is hollowed out from the volcanic rock by millenia of torrents following rainfalls on the surrounding mountains above the town of Aguimes. February 2026
