I alluded to some snake business earlier… had to do with a giant maw and, perhaps, a vole #GopherSnake #ReptilePhotography #BlackButteReservoir #Fujifilm #SOoC
This basking serpent committed the most natural of acts just before #GopherSnake #ReptilePhotography #BlackButteReservoir #Fujifilm #SOoC

Slithering Succotash! I love our backyard wildlife.

Baby season has apparently begun! Unless he’s had a really slow first year, this bullsnake looks like about the right size for new hatchling; he’s also sporting some similar neck patterns to an adult that frequents the area, so maybe this is his kid.

This #GopherSnake wasn’t too pleased to have its evening stroll interrupted by my bike ride. #snakes #reptiles #NorthDakota

I had a friend helping in the garden today, then I gave them a lift to the chicken coop and let them explore the mouse tunnels.

Winter is coming to an end, meaning all the temperate reptiles get their heat turned back on and can start coming out for handling.
Nimona here is the first to get handled again; she’s a hybrid black pine x bullsnake, and got the quiet demeanor of her mother with a lot of the color of her father (though she keeps getting darker so this could rapidly change). Like a lot of my snakes, she occasionally likes trying to burrow through my hair…

#snakes nice Mother's Day surprise. Haven't seen a gopher snake in awhile. They are weclome visitors. Don't kill them. They eat rodents. #gardening #gophersnake. Before I noticed him he was laying flat but coiled and mimiced a rattlesnake to get me to bsck off. This one was about 3+ feet.

There were two baby flycatchers (Say's Phoebe) near where this snake was. One of the parent birds had been calling and I thought it was a cat around or just the chickens causing it. There's a stack of junk below the nest to prevent the cats (in the night mostly), but I didn't expect a snake could be an issue. Maybe this has always been a thing because they've seem to have lost the babies quite often it seems like.

It was escorted to the tall grass.
