What’s the first book you ever finished and still remember to this day?

For years, the only books I truly remembered were the textbooks I read for exams. They taught me discipline, but never the joy of turning a page simply to see what happened next. Then, in college, a quiet little novel called Goodbye, Mr. Chips changed everything. It was the first book I finished not because I had to, but because I wanted to—and in doing so, it taught me that reading could be more than a habit; it could be a companion for life.

Goodbye Mr. Chips (1939)
Directed by Sam Wood

Based on the novella by James Hilton, this movie features a truly wonderful performance by Robert Donat as Charles Edward Chipping ("Mr. Chips"), a dedicated and much-loved teacher at an English public school.

Everyone understandably talks about the personal family loss in #GoodbyeMrChips, but it’s portrayal of the devastating impact of World War I is absolutely devastating. #TCMParty
