My car has been trying to change it's own oil, going through a quart every 600 miles or so. There have been no signs of a leak on my driveway or smoke from the tailpipe, but I occasionally noticed faint wisps of smoke coming from under the hood as well as burnt oil residue near the top of the engine. Apparently, that is a symptom of a bad PCV valve, which, fortunately, isn't too expensive or difficult to replace. Fingers crossed that I fixed the problem.
