Mobile IRC client that I use (goguma - https://codeberg.org/emersion/goguma) updated and had one very visible UI change: previously every message "bubble" had distinct background color for channel participant. Now the coloring is only applied to users nickname (like good old nickcolor.pl). This is actually really awesome, it helps my reading (with slight dyslexia) massively! It is truly awesome change!

But I still feel bit sad for the loss of whimsical UI look. Even though previous one was objectively worse for me, it was still endearing. Brains are silly.

The Goguma IRC client is really nice! After years of (not) using Quassel this is an app with actually working push notifications and reading indicators (and modern UI) - stuff that should be standard but isn't.
IMHO it actually works better than Element on Android, which has barely working reading indicators and keeps jumping around.

I made a simple wiki page on the #IndieWeb site today and then joined the #IRC web chat https://indieweb.org/discuss for a while. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, thank you! 🥰

I'm not that familiar with IRC, but I remember using a green ducky (logo) app on macOS maybe 10 years ago? I am now searching for an IRC client for Mac / Android. Will try WeeChat on Mac Goguma on Android later. What do you use?

@alexia introduced me to goguma, which looks alright. what are some other modern irc clients for android?

#IRC #goguma #android

@taylorparizo I'm currently test driving #soju with #gamja, #goguma and #senpai.
The experience is quite different from more traditional IRC clients. Feels a lot less technical and more like modern messengers. I'm still not sure if I like it even though everything's working just fine.
There's also #halloy which is a modern GUI client that looks promising.

@federico3

#Goguma is a client I started to like when I started using IRC again. It supports soju as a #bouncer.

I'm using an instance of #soju running at #sourcehut .

@jani If you do decide to try a bouncer, I'd suggest investigating #soju. Even though my main IRC client (surprise, emacs based #circe) is not IRCv3 anything (unlike soju, which is IRCv3 focused), backlog still works better than my experience with znc and bip. There is also a decent android client called #goguma by the soju author.

#goguma is a decent #IRC client for #Android.

I downloaded it from #FDROID and in combination with #SCRPY it worked very well!

Kudos to all the projects involved but Android...

Android you had better to disappear once and forever!

Anyone use #irc on #Android? #RevolutionIRC deletes my channels, doesn't send notifications, and loses connection. #Goguma loses connection, doesn't run in background, and doesn't send notifications.
