New Zealand’s high commissioner to the United Kingdom has lost his job over remarks he made about President Donald Trump at an event held by the Chatham House think tank in London this week. Phil Goff alluded to a speech the British politician Winston Churchill gave in 1938 decrying Britain's signing of the Munich Agreement with Adolf Hitler. “President Trump has restored the bust of Churchill to the Oval Office. But do you think he really understands history?” Goff asked the guest speaker. New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters said Goff’s comments were “disappointing” and made the envoy’s position “untenable.”
