"A collection of expertly photographed phenomena with no conventional plot. The footage focuses on the relationship between nature, humanity, and technology."

World, out of balance.

Watching Koyaanisqatsi because someone here mentioned it recently. One of the absolute best concerts was the Philip Glass Ensemble in NYC performing this as the movie played. Watching musicians working to keep pace with the movie cues, which is showing people working to keep pace with the world, and both relationships a mix of the natural and the man-made. Unbelievable.

#GodfreyReggio the #director is an extremely interesting person as well:
He used to be a #monk who "...spent 14 years in silence and prayer during his training." & went on to become a #documentarian 🎥

Steve Albini: “The best music is made in service of the mania of the people doing it at the moment.”
The music producer joins director Godfrey Reggio and actor Fred Armisen to explain why creating is crucial to human existence.
Imagine, if you will, an evening's entertainment consisting of an episode of Portlandia, a spin of Nirvana's In Utero, and a screening of Koyaanisqatsi. Perhaps these works would, at first glance, seem to have little in common.
Rewatching the #Qatsi-trilogy in reverse order: The first episode, #Koyaanisqatsi, is still the best. The music by Glass is also most impressive.
" [...] "Koyaanisqatsi" is an impressive visual and listening experience, that Reggio and Glass have made wonderful pictures and sounds, and that this film is a curious throwback to the 1960s, when it would have been a short subject to be viewed through a marijuana haze. Far out. " Roger Ebert (†2013)
Rewatching the #Qatsi-trilogy in reverse order: #Powaqqatsi. Due to the internet, the images don't impress that much anymore. 😕
" "Powaqqatsi" is finally, essentially, a New Age music video, a series of images torn from context, scored, and edited to soothe us with their wonder while we idly try to pluck messages from them. I enjoyed watching the film and yet, finally, I think that was because I was lazy, and so was Reggio. " Roger Ebert (†2013)
Rewatching the #Qatsi-trilogy in reverse order. First #Naqoyqatsi, with a great performance by Yo-Yo Ma.
" I have problems with "Naqoyqatsi" as a film, but as a music video it's rather remarkable. " Roger Ebert (†2013)
