A few thoughts on Tenkuu Cafeteria (OP 3) - ani.social

Music is highly subjective and can be hard to discuss, but I wanted to share a few thoughts on this track. The third opening, 天空カフェテリア [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltqE7CmnqyU&list=OLAK5uy_lB8gksuuYsUcZ1nSzN35rGYlzU2I9zL1s&index=4], is absolutely beautiful. I am especially in love with the first 9 seconds. This intro feels incredibly nostalgic, romantic, and dreamy — it truly pulls you up into the skies (Tenkuu / 天空). and probably hits the exact musical patterns that resonate with my soul. What’s even more interesting is how this motif returns during the chorus (around the 0:59 mark). Even though the background instruments switch to a bright major key and all the characters are singing with pure joy in their voices, I still hear a faint undertone of sadness in that specific chord progression. I’m no music theory expert (more like a dilettante with a terrible ear, haha), but it feels like there is a subtle piano layer that transforms a simple, cheerful subdominant chord into a dreamy, slightly melancholic Maj7. It adds such a beautiful depth to the song. Idk how many times I relistined this track today in different versions… I am always amazed by the sheer volume of music produced for CGDCT anime like K-ON!, YuruYuri, GochiUsa — there are definitelly over a hundred tracks! I always tell myself that I will listen to every single one of them someday… What do you guys think of OP 3 compared to the others? Do you also catch that vibe in the chorus?
