Goðafoss, often referred to as the "Waterfall of the Gods," is one of the most spectacular and iconic waterfalls in Iceland, located in the North of the country near the town of Akureyri. The waterfall is approximately 12 meters (39 feet) high and around 30 meters (98 feet) wide, creating a stunning cascade of water that flows from the Skjálfandafljót river.
The name Goðafoss has its roots in Icelandic history and mythology. According to legend, the waterfall was named after the year 1000 AD when Iceland converted to Christianity. The lawspeaker Þorgeirr Ljósvetningagoði is said to have thrown his pagan idols into the waterfall as a symbol of the nation's acceptance of the new faith, hence the name "Waterfall of the Gods."
Goðafoss is not only significant for its historical and cultural importance but also for its breathtaking beauty. The waterfall is characterized by its crescent shape and the surrounding landscape, which features lush greenery, rugged cliffs, and volcanic formations.

La cascada de Goðafoss es el destino turístico más popular del norte de Islandia. También es uno de los lugares más fotogénicos de la Tierra de Hielo.
