Not every #gliding flight goes well. Yesterday, I flew a dress rehearsal for my flight test. The good news is that I executed the skills as required. The better news is that I was able to thermal back up to almost 4,000' half way through, so I could rehearse the required skills in one flight, not two.
Still issues to iron out. Ah well, if it came easy I'd be bored by now.

I admire surfers. When I take my glasses off, the world isn't rosy, it's extremely out of focus. I tried surfing in 1969. No glasses and a humongous plank for a board. I couldn't see the waves coming and I got tired of getting whacked in the head with a tree. I stuck to body surfing.

Are there any sounds that bring back good memories for you?
As a teenager (in the 1970s) I used to fly #gliders.
There's a unique sound when air flows over a traditional "Irish linen" covered aircraft that you don't get with modern fibreglass gliders (ASW21).
In my 20s and 30s I made a couple of visits to gliding clubs, and steadfastly refused to fly newer gliders in favour of the K13.
I've not heard the airflow sound for 30 years now, but I remember it.
What a flight - so very much needed. Got the longest flight on the most unpromising day, even beating the ex-CFI! Probably rank it as one of the nicest fights all year so far. Had Red Kites flying above, below, and alongside too - so wonderful to be in the same air as them.
