Favourite Friends, Glen Affric

There's something about this little clump of Scots Pines that really appeals to me. Emerging from the carpark to look over the Caledonian Forest, they're the first few trees one sees. Characterful. I've admired these in particular every time I've visited for over 15 years.

Lone Pine, Glen Affric

One of my favoured views - there's something about the way this particular lone pine stands out, tall above the surrounding heather, particularly prominent in autumn with the lines of yellow birch converging on it.

The foreground hillock is a small deposit of glacial till, characteristic of this end of the glen.
