Peyto Lake, its peak, and the glacier are all named after Bill Peyto—an Englishman who moved to Canada and became a renowned mountain guide and park warden. At first, we were confused by the "mist" hanging in the air, but checking the fire maps of North America revealed the true scale of what was happening.
Despite the difficult conditions, the view is a testament to why this is one of the most recommended spots in the Rockies. Its vibrant glacial flour creates a color that has to be seen in person to be believed.
Practical Tip: To see the lake from this perspective, head to the Bow Summit lookout along the Icefields Parkway. It is a short, paved walk from the parking area.
