Ah, Saturday morning. Rolling over to snuggle up with my husband, dozing off again until the dogs decide to join.

And the day has only just begun. Later, I’ll be checking in at a hotel for a spa retreat with two good friends. We met back in 2008 when we worked at the same school, and even though all three of us went separate ways professionelly, we’ve kept in touch. Now in our late fifties, we’ve all entered grandmotherhood, and tonight we’ll solve everything. Or maybe we’ll just have a drink or two too many. Either way, we’ll definitely have a good time.

Girls’ night out

The Royal Square in Phnom Penh, between the Royal Palace and the riverside where the rivers Tonle Sap and Mekong meet, are among the nicest public areas in the Cambodian Capital.

The area is ordinarily bustling with people, both locals and tourists from early morning. In the late afternoon/early evening families arrive for picnic, and later in the evening young people join for meals, drinks and friendly activities.

Many of them arrives after the ordinary shops and daytime cafes are closed.

When you have one of those soft, velvet dark blue nights it becomes a nice ending of a day visiting the capital city.
