Just made a batch of onion rings today.

It's actually my first time eating them. They probably don't look much like the recipe, and honestly they're not very appetizing to look at, but taste is what matters, right?

I used tempura flour mixed with a little fermented chili paste, then coated them again with panko. Looking back, some herbs in the flour would have been nice too, but I didn't have any in the fridge. I also skipped the salt since the tempura flour already has flavor, and I don't usually use pepper because I've never really liked the smell (which is why I use fermented chili paste instead).

And yes, taste is what matters.

They turned out surprisingly good. Well, not amazing or anything. At the end of the day it's just onion covered in flour. Still, it goes really well when you're watching something or just feeling bored.

I imagine they'd pair well with beer too (maybe). I don't drink alcohol, so I wouldn't know.

They're crispy on the outside, and the soft, sweet onion inside makes them surprisingly easy to keep eating. Before I noticed, half the plate was already gone.

Since it was my first time making them, I tried a few different thicknesses. The thickest ones had around four layers of onion, and after eating them, I think they were just alright.
