Now that I have written a secure, #E2Ee #messenger for #iOS, #Android, #macOS & #Windows (using #Flutter) myself, I have, IMO, finally “earned” the right to complain about other messengers’ UX, UI, technology, and the dev’s attitude.
I am using:
- Actively: Apple Messages, WhatsApp (ughh), Signal
- Passively (i.e. just have an account there to check UI/UX + performance): Telegram
- Used: Threema
The results so far:
- Best in UI/UX: #Telegram
- Best in Security: #Signal(?)
- Best in Business: #Threema (Ginlo Business)
- Best in Reach: #WhatsApp
- Best in Features: #Messages
- Best in Privacy: Messages
- Best in Performance: Telegram
- Worst in UI/UX: WhatsApp
- Worst in Security: Telegram
- Worst in Business: WhatsApp
- Worst in Privacy: Telegram/WhatsApp
- Worst in Reach: Threema
- Worst in Developer Attitude: WhatsApp, Telegram, Threema, Signal, (no idea about Messages)
No, I am not going to elaborate, because these are just my own, subjective experiences/judgement.
For #Ginlo_II / #Cicero, I took inspiration from Telegram (UI/UX), features (Messages), Business (Threema + Ginlo Business), Security (Signal), Performance (Telegram).
No, I have not beaten Signal in Security and Telegram in performance (that one is unbeatable because they have no encryption, which saves you tons of performance issues), but I have definitely beaten WhatsApp in everything except reach (I am just starting) and also beaten every messenger out there in terms of PRIVACY.
And I am also hoping to one day beat all of them in terms of developer attitude…
We’ll be launching our client as soon as the CEO decides so. I am hoping for end of October, but you never know.
