Today's taxon is, in my opinion, a particularly attractive species; #Ginkgoites (#Ginkgo) #dissecta is a deeply dissected leaf from the middle #Eocene of NW #USA, which actually co-existed with G. #biloba.

Another very small leafed species today, #Ginkgoites #brauniana is a many lobed species from the German Wealden which was originally described as a species of #Baiera. Leaves similar to G. brauniana have also been found in the younger USA Potomac Group. #paleobotany #paleoart
Today's species is #Ginkgoites #tigrensis (see 2nd post), a #Ginkgo-like leaf from the Early Cretaceous of South America. However, unlike many Ginkgoites leaves, G. tigrensis belongs to a different plant, #Karkenia #incurva. #paleobotany #paleoart
Today's species is one of the most unique I've come across: #Ginkgoites #houlinhensis (initially ascribed to #Ginkgo) was an East Asian #desert, or arid environment adapted #plant which has #xerophytic adaptations such as sunken stomata and hairs on the leaf surface. #paleobotany
Sticking to the southern hemisphere, here's #Ginkgoites #villardeseoanii, an interesting species from the latest #Cretaceous of Argentina. It's one of the more recently described Ginkgoites species and has lobes with characteristics flat and notched tips. #paleoart #paleobotany
#Ginkgoites #waarensis is a Cenomanian species from the Chatham Islands of New Zealand. During the #Cretaceous, these islands were connected to Antarctica and would have experienced months of darkness during the winter. #paleobotany #paleoart #Ginkgo #SciComm #paleontology
Today's species is #Ginkgoites #myrioneurus; it hails from the Early #Cretaceous Muling Formation of China and is distinct in having many narrow round-tiped lobes with high vein density. It has also been associated with #Ginkgo-like long and short shoots. #paleobotany #paleoart
Up next is #Ginkgoites #patagonica, a species from the #Eocene of Argentina. This species had leaves with 2-8 narrow round-tiped lobes and is the youngest #Ginkgoales species from the southern hemisphere. #paleobotany #Ginkgo #paleoart #SciComm #plants
I'm not sure how long I'll keep this up for, but I want to do a series highlighting each species of Ginkgoales I restored. First up is #Ginkgoites #pluripartita. This was a very widespread species, found across the northern hemisphere in Early Cretaceous rocks from the northern USA, Canada, Greenland, Germany, Siberia, Franz Josef Land, and potentially also in the Morrison Formation. Its leaves show a lot of variation, with some having broad lobes and others being highly divided. #FossilFriday
Today's collection of #leaf sketches. This time, they're all (more or less) #Baiera, a leaf which was incredibly similar to #Ginkgoites, but often more divided with narrower lobes.
Oh, and also a few #dragons.
