Fun day exploring south-eastern #Connecticut and came across #GilletteCastle in East Haddam. It was built in 1914 by William Hooker Gillette, the actor, director and playwright most famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes (not by the razor blade magnate). It commands an impressive view of the still frozen Connecticut River. Now it is a Connecticut State Park with many amenities. I wouldn't mind returning in the summer when the interior is open for tours and we could explore the many hiking trails which are still covered by snow.
