However, while Scotland has some of the largest giant sequoias in the UK, they're mere babies compared to their Californian cousins. This is because most were only planted in the last 150 years, while those in California can be more than 3,000 years old.

A giant sequioa in the Arboretum of the Glasgow Botanic Gardens in the West End of the city. Due to their popularity with Victorian naturalists and rich landowners, there are now more than five times as many giant sequoias in Scotland than their native California (500,000 vs 82,000).

One of three giant #sequoia #trees in the #Elbauenpark #Magdeburg for #ThickTrunkTuesday. They were only planted in 2003, so there's nothing giant about them yet (though they're quite tall already). I'll check back in a few centuries! 😉
