Mike T.Not long after I got out of the Navy, I went to visit my Dad and step-mom on the farm where the tended an old labor camp.
One of the building was called the 'Boss House' but by then was used for storage. It was small and dark. I entered to fetch some gear for the kitchen but found my brave self unhappy about the feel of the big room. I grabbed what I was sent to grab and backed out, unable to turn my back on the room.
Late, I told the owner of the land about my strange feelings there.
"In the corner, by the old stove, right?"
"Yeah. How did you know?"
"My father," he said, "told me about a laborer who was killed in that room during a knife fight, maybe 30 years ago now. The ghost of the man killed thinks he's still alive and hides behind the old stove to avoid being arrested."
I heard that in 1970, but it still gives me shivers when I picture that dark green room and dusty wood stove."
I don't believe in ghosts either but I don't think I could go back there.
