It's a German comedy film based on the play of the same name by Carl Zuckmayer. It's based on the true story of Wilhelm Voigt, an impostor who pretended to be a military officer and became famous as the Captain from Köpenick.

Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at Academy Awards.
