If you want to know more about how I feel about domestic matters, you might enjoy reading Ralph Borsodi's "This Ugly Civilization" (1929) and "Flight from the City" (1933).

#RalphBorsodi, like me, was a #Georgist, a follower of #HenryGeorge, and an early proponent of what we would later come to call the "back to the land" movement.

You can find his books at the Internet Archive. "This Ugly Civilization" is now public domain, "Flight from the City" will be on 2029-0101.

@benlockwood The environmental movement is just a negative application of the labor movements principle that workers ought to get the fruits of their labor. Nature isn’t the fruits of anyone’s labor, but everyone has an equal claim to it including future generations. #HenryGeorge had the right idea.

Modern Labour do not like tSnowden, but the first Labour chancellor he had one quality his successors should follow: he was a #Georgist, even penning an introduction to an edition of Henry George's' "Protection or Free Trade". Read it now Rachel & save your skin! https://oll.libertyfund.org/titles/george-protection-or-free-trade

George was not just an advocate of the single tax on the unimproved value of land, but also a strong defender of free trade, as this work demonstrates. Read the Liberty Classic on this title from Econlib

Now hear me out please and let me know if this is wildly out. Lots of talk about taxing billionaires. But I *think* you might find it wouldn't even cover one week's worth of change recently in the budget black hole let alone give loads of dosh to spend on pet projects. UK's 55 billionaires if similar to those across the world, would be "worth" about $296bn in total. Not even 3/4 of a Musk. If you were to tax that capital value at 5% (a simple proxy for the entire income flow fro $296bn invested) you'd get just $14bn a year in extra tax.

If you want to tax better, stop looking at merely how much people have. And as Churchill said in his enlightened days as a #Georgist Liberal ask instead "how did you get it" and reward those who produce the wealth and tax those who take the surplus generated by the whole of society. #abolishtaxes #sharetherents #makepovertyhistory

It's another politicians tinkering aimlessly (and destructively) day!

It's so frustrating being a #Georgist #SingleTax advocate on a budget day. You just want to scream "stupid people" at all o them! #abolishtaxes #sharetherents #superchargetheeconomy #valueourplanet #makepovertyhistory

@markhughes

Georgism and property theory contradict anti-taxation views. Land services and natural resources aren’t the fruits of anyone’s labor, but their use is a negative fruits of everyone’s labor. Taxation compensates for these liabilities everyone has.

Economists use efficiency criteria to judge capitalism, but I question those criteria. A system isn’t efficient if it doesn’t distribute its gains broadly.

@davevolek The democratic federation aims to address this practical issue. It offers companies startup capital in exchange for non-voting preferred shares in the co-op and pay a percentage fee the value of the firm’s capital assets to the federation in a manner similar to a Harberger tax. I’d also collectivize land across the federation in a #Georgist style. Leases and land fees would be paid in the federation’s currency, which would have exit and transfer taxes. What are your thoughts on this?
Interesting short write up from 1957 of the #Fairhope Alabama #SingleTax company, a successful long term #Georgist effort. The writers note that it is boring because it is so successful. https://cooperative-individualism.org/progress_review-of-paul-alyea-fairhope-the-story-of-a-single-tax-colony-1957-jul.pdf #equity #Georgism #Alabama
bruh, I just want a #libertarian #Georgist world-state with #openBorders and a universal #auxLang

The following link is a reprint of the Mar-Apr 1986 issue of "Land & Liberty" magazine, published by the #HenryGeorge Foundation. It features an interview of Filipino author and #Georgist, Charles Avila.

I've pointed out several times in the past that the median age of Filipinos alive today is under 27 years. This article is older than most people alive in the #Philippines can remember. You would have had to be at least a teen in 1986 to have understood it. #LVT
