SEGS invites applications for a scholar with expertise in globalization who can work with students to understand, critically evaluate, and develop new knowledge about international issues. The scholar should research current global issues (such as migration, global health, global environmental change, social justice, urban development, or climate change) from an interdisciplinary viewpoint and integrate different approaches and disciplinary perspectives in their work. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with research experience in a major world region outside of North America. The hired person will oversee the Global and International Studies curriculum, teach courses, advise and recruit students, publish research, and strengthen international partnerships and study abroad programs.
by Begüm Demir Technische Universität Berlin Prof. Demir will share her team’s recent advances in foundation models for Earth observation (EO). She will highlight their EO Foundation Model Database, the first structured, schema-guided resource cataloging over 150 EO models across diverse data modalities and learning paradigms. She will then introduce REMSA (Remote-sensing Model Selection Agent), the first LLM agent for automated EO model selection via natural language queries. Her talk will also cover model efficiency, including their soft mixture-of-experts approach, and outline future research directions.
