In our postmodern algorithmic age, #USPol goes like this:
The flip-side to the banal, brazen evil of the Far Right is the usefully idiotic, pandering, self-congratulating performative fecklessness of The Far Left.
Both are promoted by the algorithms as they (both) tear down the very institutions that the vast majority (in the middle) *need* to work in a functioning Democracy.

I constantly have to remind the staff that I am a GenX'er, and if there's an emergency, the best way to get ahold of me is by phone. Not by text. An actual phone call, with your voice. I am not paying attention to every beep and noise my phone makes, but when it rings, I'll have a look at it. Thankfully, my Millennial boss was able to handle the 'emergency'.

Here is my lazy Sunday question for you.
I remain surprised at the number of instructors (and other professionals) I meet that never held a job outside their field. Maybe I shouldn't be.
Did you have a job that wasn't in your field? Summer, temp, whatever. Just working exposure to a different world than your professional one?
