The PATHWAYS trial for puberty blockers in young people is on hold. The MHRA wants to raise the minimum age from 10 to 14 due to safety concerns.

As you're almost-certainly already aware, access to GAHT is increasingly being restricted, being outright banned, or otherwise unavailableb to many trans+ people under 18 in many places across the world 😔

For example, the UK had already banned new prescriptions of GnRH agonists (a type of puberty blocker) for any trans+ person under 18, and is now genuinely considering banning all private GAHT prescriptions too 🤬

GAHT is literally lifesaving medication for many trans+ people 

Without it, many trans+ people under 18 will struggle even more with mental health, and many will not make it to adulthood 😭

If you are a trans+ person under 18, or are a supportive family member or friend of someone who is, please start to make contingency plans now for the worst-case scenarios 🥺

We highly recommend bookmarking the below website and making copies of all relevant info and links in case it gets taken down:

  • Before the site will let you in, it'll ask you to answer a quiz, after which it'll create a cookie called "quiz_passed" with a value of "true".

Just been invited for an introductory session at Chalmers GIC in #edinburgh-- that's about two and a half years after I applied to them. I'm prepared for further waits after that, so I'm not sure how long it'll be in total.

This is one of the shorter waiting times in the UK. But it's still awful. One shouldn't need to wait around three years to see a doctor about #genderIncongruence, when the treatment is well-studied and straightforward. 😠

Like many folks, I short-circuited the wait by going private in the meantime. That's something most #transgender people don't have the privilege to do. Transition has been life-changing and has mitigated so many other seemingly unrelated conditions; it's scandalous to gate this based on one's financial situation.

Anyway, I'm hoping the actual process will be smooth. I'm already being treated with estradiol, and it's going well; all I've gotta do is convince the NHS to take over prescriptions. They've done this for loads of people in the past. Should be fine, right? 😅

As of ICD-11, which was adopted in 2019 & came into force from 1st January 2022, the pathologised diagnosis for being trans is NOT "gender dysphoria", but rather either of :

1. HA60 - gender incongruence of adolescence or adulthood
2. HA61 - gender incongruence of childhood
