Its Motorola 68K CPU was running over 8 Mhz with up to 4 MB RAM, and with Digital Research's #GEM the machine rendered graphics with 16 colors in 320 Γ 200 pixels. Monochrome it offered in up to 640 Γ 400 pixels. The year after #ST1040 was launched, and for the first time the cost per KB of RAM went below U$D1.
With apps like Calamus, Kandinsky and Photo line and vector font support, the Atari ST gained a foothold in #DTP and #CAD markets. But thanks to built-in #MIDI ports, it was most popular for music sequencing with Cubase.
Alongside the Apple Macintosh, IIGS, Amiga, and Archimedes, #AtariST models pushed limits in PC history. But in 1993 Atari discontinued ST computers.
