And here’s a ‘how we did it’ piece from #GazelleAutomations.
Also worth a watch!
I really wish that Paramount had gone with this team instead of who they chose for the Very Short Treks. They are top notch and deserve the recognition.
Gazelle Automations did these two pieces as love letter to the franchise and to an earlier animation style, while their own work tends to be a mix of puppetry, animatronics and animation. From interviews, it’s clear that they have a true appreciation for the challenges the Filmation animators faced in the 70s.
They’re doing some great, award-winning work for TVOKids (Miikshi) and CBCKids (Go Togo coming this fall). They also recreated key Thunderbirds marionettes for BBC specials.
I’m super curious to see their new SPACE BAO project in development - A space otter, a talking refrigerator and the all-powerful space bao (steamed).

Did you know that Scott Tracy, Lady Penelope, Parker and Brains were recreated for the ‘#Thuderbirds: The Anniversary Episodes’ & ‘Thunderbirds Day Specials’?
#Toronto-based #GazelleAutomations are more widely known in North America for their excellent #StarTrek fan tributes ‘#TNG The #Animated Series’ & ‘#Voyager The Animated Series.’
#Puppetry and mixed media are their metiers though.

Not sure folks here are aware - there’s a 2014 documentary ‘Filmed in #Supermarionation’.
“…this feature documentary about the British filmmakers behind #Thunderbirds, #Stingray, and #CaptainScarletandtheMysterons”
It had a brief recent run on Netflix in the UK and Canada, Tubi in the US, but doesn’t show as currently available.
#GazelleAutomations’ Justin Lee directed and led the #puppetry.

#Voyager’s #Threshold is a fairly solid episode with some great moments up until it goes beyond #StarTrekWeird (TM) to set the franchise’s asymptotic limit for trippyness and not just for warp travel.
#Janeway once again, with sangfroid, shows that “Weird is our business.”
After you’ve seen the episode, I recommend going immediately to #GazelleAutomations wonderful short in the style of #StarTrekTAS. It’s a joy.

I was really disappointed that #GazelleAutomations wasn’t engaged for this project. Their animation was truer to the Filmation #StarTrekTAS originals. The humour was better too. I keep coming back to rewatch their fan shorts.
Their pro work for #TVO and #Thunderbirds is great too. They’re doing an interesting mix of puppetry, practical effects and animation.
