Musk’s #DOGE pushed the appointment through #Trump White House channels, but Bessent was not consulted or asked for his blessing, sources said.
NBC News has confirmed the fact that Shapley has been ousted.

Gary Shapley, the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is being replaced after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent approached President Donald Trump to say that Shapley was placed into the role without his knowledge and at Elon Musk’s direction, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
#GaryShapley was a longtime #IRS agent when he told Congress in 2023 that prosecutors slow-walked an inquiry into then-President Joe #Biden’s son for #tax offenses.… But Shapley’s testimony, along w/that of Joseph Ziegler, has made him a celebrated figure on the #FarRight & endeared him to advisers to #Trump, who in his first term openly mused about using #tax investigations to persecute his perceived #political #enemies.
