Yeah, I've had to move all of my rainbow chard and beets to the shadier side of the house (they get morning sun and that's it). They were getting pretty wilted. The lettuce bolted (not surprising, but I don't mind having more seeds), and the peppers are thriving! @BrambleBearGrrrauwling @yvan

Love this story! What a great idea -- #FruitWalls!

"Melle Smets, Dutch artist and our collaborator at the Human Power Plant, stumbled upon this beautiful fruit wall in #Dorrepaal, the Netherlands. By planting fruit trees close to a specially built wall with high thermal mass and #SouthernExposure, a #microclimate is created that allows the cultivation of #Mediterranean fruits in #TemperateClimates. Previously: Fruit walls: urban farming in the 1600s."

Restored Fruit Wall in the Netherlands

Lots of different native plants, some introduced beneficial plants, some edible & medicinal plants - closer to ground & not visible in vid. The mixed tall grasses, buckwheat, alfalfa, buttercups & dandelions are between 2-4 feet tall now. I'm doing ongoing soil remediation as part of my longterm rewilding project. Aiming to create a suburban backyard food forest - pollinators/wildlife friendly gardens will be part of it all πŸ˜€

5 years ago, this spot was just useless colonial lawn. Now, it's full of #biodiversity & attracts multiple pollinators, birds & beneficial insects. There's lots of buttercups, nettles, clovers, miner's lettuce, wild violets, sedges, buckwheat & tall grasses growing now. You can even see some self seeded chive flowers in background.

#Rewilding takes longtime, consistent efforts, over a few years. It's worth the time & effort! Rewilding is one way that I actively & personally contribute, locally, to essential #ClimateAction πŸ™Œ I believe in living true to your core values & ethics. I love hearing/seeing/discussing #rewild subjects with folks - offline or online πŸ˜€

#BlackMedick aka #HopClover.

It grows on almost every continent. Very cold & drought resistant. Known as an excellent pioneer plant to rewild disturbed grounds. #PioneerPlants are plants that are often used to start many #rewilding efforts in areas where the soil isn't great & has suffered damages. It doesn't do too well in full shade. Very #ColdResistant & #DroughtResistant, once established - it's been found in mountain elevations to desert environments.

A good choice for a #ClimateActionGarden.
In the alfalfa family of plants.

The seeds are edible & can be ground up into flour but they're too small for the effort. It's mainly used as animal #fodder & it attracts lots of #pollinators πŸ‘

This year's garden will involve some veggies in containers (lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, lentils), a few in the veggie garden (onions, cabbage, three sisters, sunflowers, celeriac), some "exotic" indoor plants (ginger, turmeric, paprika peppers, tea plants, herbs), and lots of milkweed and wildflowers outdoors for the locals. I feel sorry for the bees already out, as we only have snowdrops blooming -- the periwinkles haven't bloomed yet. Ugh.
