"Melle Smets, Dutch artist and our collaborator at the Human Power Plant, stumbled upon this beautiful fruit wall in #Dorrepaal, the Netherlands. By planting fruit trees close to a specially built wall with high thermal mass and #SouthernExposure, a #microclimate is created that allows the cultivation of #Mediterranean fruits in #TemperateClimates. Previously: Fruit walls: urban farming in the 1600s."

Heal all is used in a lot of #ChineseTraditionalMedicine & #Chinese #HerbalTeas. Wong Lo Kat is a commercial canned herbal tea with heal all as a main ingredient.

In North America, the #Nlakapamuk #Salishan #Indigenous peoples make cold infused, refreshing drinks with them. Several other #FirstNations in #BritishColumbia & #PacificNorthwest areas also harvested it for medicinal uses.

Lots of different native plants, some introduced beneficial plants, some edible & medicinal plants - closer to ground & not visible in vid. The mixed tall grasses, buckwheat, alfalfa, buttercups & dandelions are between 2-4 feet tall now. I'm doing ongoing soil remediation as part of my longterm rewilding project. Aiming to create a suburban backyard food forest - pollinators/wildlife friendly gardens will be part of it all 😀

5 years ago, this spot was just useless colonial lawn. Now, it's full of #biodiversity & attracts multiple pollinators, birds & beneficial insects. There's lots of buttercups, nettles, clovers, miner's lettuce, wild violets, sedges, buckwheat & tall grasses growing now. You can even see some self seeded chive flowers in background.

#Rewilding takes longtime, consistent efforts, over a few years. It's worth the time & effort! Rewilding is one way that I actively & personally contribute, locally, to essential #ClimateAction 🙌 I believe in living true to your core values & ethics. I love hearing/seeing/discussing #rewild subjects with folks - offline or online 😀

It grows on almost every continent. Very cold & drought resistant. Known as an excellent pioneer plant to rewild disturbed grounds. #PioneerPlants are plants that are often used to start many #rewilding efforts in areas where the soil isn't great & has suffered damages. It doesn't do too well in full shade. Very #ColdResistant & #DroughtResistant, once established - it's been found in mountain elevations to desert environments.

A good choice for a #ClimateActionGarden.
In the alfalfa family of plants.

The seeds are edible & can be ground up into flour but they're too small for the effort. It's mainly used as animal #fodder & it attracts lots of #pollinators 👍

#Satinflower - Pale Yellow Eyed Grass - #evergreen #perennial in #Iridaceae family. It'll grow in soil with clay & sand - poor soil is OK. Once established, it's pest & drought resistant. Recommended #cultivating this #plant for #ClimateAction #horticulture.
