Using a birthday gift card, I bought myself a nice new bluetooth game controller so I can play 30-year-old SNES games on my little #GameDad plugged into the TV

(because sadly the screen is too small for me to comfortably play for long and anyway Final Fantasy III was meant to be played on a TV)

so of course my GameDad battery is so dead right now it won't even turn on

@ajroach42 I've got my production sorted (NGPC rather than Gameboy, although I guess that counts as #GameDad)

It looks you're using cassette cases for boxes - I started doing that but ended up settling for Evercade boxes - they can be bought for £5 (here in the UK, not sure about the rest of the world), they look better and actually ended up being cheaper than buying empty cassete boxes and printing the inserts. Dunno, might be an option for you?

Alternately, if you've released a game that will run on any of the #Gamedad style devices, but especially the Anbernic RG35XX series, and you'd like to do physical distribution of that game, also reach out.

I've come up with what I think is pretty cute packaging for that kind of thing, which I will probably finish and show off sometime this month.

That means NES, SNES, Playstation, Dreamcast, etc are all on the table.

I'll talk more about that in a few days when I post the finished art.

It was way too much work to make, but I really love my custom #gameDad

Waiting for my kids’ dance convention break and playing Pokémon SoulSilver on a DSi like it’s 2010.

#gamedad

After reading the article by @flwwhtrbt about getting a Japanese PSP, I followed the advice and tried ordering a PSP 2000 and a DSi

The DSi is here and in pretty good shape. I got Unlaunch and TwilightMenu on it with no issues but the shoulder buttons either don’t work or barely work

I looked up a teardown and it seems like a pretty minor surgery to repair or replace them

Wish me luck. I’ve never had a DSi and already love the form factor for an EDC #gamedad

The Anatomy of an Impossible Port: Bringing Dead Cells to the R36S

"In its final form, Dead Cells runs at roughly 25 frames per second on the R36S, fitting into about 400MB of resident memory. It boots, plays, and remains stable. The lighting is gone, but the pixel art carries itself. After a few rooms, it simply feels like Dead Cells. That original feasibility rating said “Low”, but it didn’t account for bmdhacks, stubbornness and time."

The Anatomy of an Impossible Port: Bringing Dead Cells to the R36S

On the PortMaster suggestions page, Dead Cells sat for a long time with 178 votes and a feasibility rating of “Low.” It wasn’t a dismissal, but it was a feeling that everyone seemed to share. The community wanted it. They just didn’t believe it could ever happen. On

The Bryant Review

A thing that the #gameDad encouraged: lots of young people* very new to emulation who are now freaking out because the currently good ROM site is going down at the end of the month

the site in question came online in October 2022

ROM sites going offline is normal but this time there's an Unusual Amount of youngsters who don't know that it's normal because this is their First Time Ever and it's traumatic for them and, IDK, I kinda want to give them a hug and tell them it's all gonna be okay

* imagine "young people" said in a voice from a dusty skeleton crypt

My #Anbernic RG35XX SP now has a little adopted brother, the #Miyoo Mini Plus!

Forgot to get a new SD card for it tho...
