Na 29. srečanju Games Cluba, 14. aprila ob 18.00 v PLAC-u, bomo obdelali DREDGE

V malem mestecu Greater Marrows iščejo novega ribiča. Ker je gospodarstvo kot vedno na psu, se prijaviš, odpotuješ… in takoj zaletiš v skale direkt pod bližnjim svetilnikom. To mogoče ni bil najboljši začetek, a meščani vztrajajo in ti ponudijo novo barko, službo… in svarila. Dredge je preprosta igra, ki jo sestavljajo približno 1/3 ribarjenja, 1/3 raziskovanja in 1/3 nadnaravnih sil, ki ti polena pod noge mečejo z raznimi namišljenimi in tudi zelo otipljivimi psihozami. The little town of Greater Marrows is looking for a new angler. Economy being what it is, you sign on, depart… and immediately wreck your boat on rocks underneath the town’s lighthouse. While your introduction could have been better, the townsfolk don’t seem to mind. They offer you the job, a spare boat… and warnings. Dredge is a simple game, divided into roughly equal parts fishing, exploring, and supernatural forces which manifest imaginary, as well as very real horrors in your path. Talking points:

PRIJAVE:
Delavnica je brezplačna in primerna za začetnice_ brez programerskih izkušenj. Potrebna je predhodna prijava preko spletnega obrazca. Število mest je omejeno. V primeru večih prijav, kot je prostih mest, bo izbor kuriran, pri čemer imajo prednost ŽLINTA* prijaviteljice ter novike_ pri game-makingu. Delavnice bodo potekale v angleškem jeziku. S seboj prinesite laptop.

Kontrolerji so nazaj! Letos bodo srečanja posvečena žanru walking sim iger ob intenzivnem tečaju orodja Unreal. Na srečanjih boste ustvarile svojo igro s hojo, govorom, interakcijo z objekti in atmosfero. Nastale igre bomo predstavile na festivalu Adela v maju in Slovenia Games konferenci v oktobru. Cikel delavnic bosta somentorirali_ Nathalie Lawhead (ustvarjalka_ večkrat nagrajene igre *Everything is Going to Be OK*) in koordinator_ serije Brin Žvan (ustvarjalec_ večkrat nagrajene igre ONE BTN BOSSES).


Potek delavnic

Cikel delavnic je sestavljen iz nekaj dni tečajev in iz coworking srečanj. Delavnice so zasnovane tako, da med posameznimi, daljšimi pavzami, lahko samostojno delate na svojih igrah.

1. DAN: Prototipiranje na papirju

Oblikovanje prototipa s post-it listki in drugimi materiali, ki jih lahko poustvarimo v igralnem pogonu. Razmišljamo o liku ali avtonomnem objektu, ki se premikata po nekem svetu, in kaj vse lahko ta svet naseljuje.

Sreda, 15. april, in četrtek, 16. april, od 18.00 do 21.00
2. in 3. DAN: Začetek v pogonu Unreal

Namestitev Unreala in uvod v uporabniški vmesnik – kje se nahajajo orodja in kaj so njihove osnovne funkcije. Ustvarjanje začetnega zemljevida in razmislek o atmosferi (osvetlitev in nebo). Dodajanje igralke_, zagon igre in začetne nastavitve. Hoja in govor.

4. in 5. DAN: Intenzivni tečaj pogona Unreal

Gradnja v Unrealu z uporabo preproste geometrije (kocke, krogle in ravnine) Pregled prekrivanj, razmislek o materialih, vrstah materialov, teksturah in senčenju. Osnove vizualnega programiranja z načrti. Gradnja z uvoženo geometrijo, 3D modeli in njihov uvoz. Odprtokodne knjižnice modelov, kot so thebasemesh, PBR knjižnice in brezplačni vsebinami iz zbirke Fab. Pregled strukture datotek tvojega projekta. Dogodki, sprožilci in še več načrtov.

6. DAN: Coworking

Potrebuješ motivacijo za nadaljevanje dela na igri ali pomoč pri ugotavljanju, zakaj nekaj ne dela? Ne skrbi, stojimo ti ob strani in s tabo googlamo odgovore.

Na festivalu Adela v Kinu Šiška bomo postavile stojnico in povabile prijateljice, obiskovalke in mimoidoče_ k preizkušanju naših walking sim iger.

O mentorjih

Nathalie Lawhead (1983) je večkrat nagrajena internetna umetnica, ustvarjalka programske opreme in oblikovalka iger. Njeno_ delo je vključeno v številne zbirke, mdr. Rhyzome ArtBase in Muzej moderne umetnosti (MoMA) v New Yorku. Ustvarja na kontroverznem presečišču videoiger in umetnosti, s svojimi eksperimentalnimi deli pa prevprašuje načine, na katere živimo in delamo v digitalni dobi. Svoje igre (Everything is Going to be OK, Tetrageddon Games, Blue Suburbia idr.) pod psevdonimom AlienMelon objavlja na platformi itch.io.

Brin Žvan (1998) je medijski umetnik in oblikovalec iger. Z magisterijem dizajna iger, ki ga je pridobil na IT univerzi v Københavnu (2023) ustvarja igre, ki uporabljajo preveč ali premalo gumbov. Zadnje delo je igra ONE BTN BOSSES (2024), v kateri igralka bije delavski boj proti šefom le z eno tipko. Igra je bila večkrat nagrajena in izjemno dobro sprejeta med kritiki – ponaša se z oceno 87/100 na platformi Metacritic. Pred tem je ustvaril Presenter Slides (2022), birokratsko avanturo, ki je prejela nominacijo za najboljšo študentsko igro na festivalu neodvisnih iger IGF (2023, San Francisco). Kadar Brin ne ustvarja iger, poučuje, kako jih ustvarjati. Kadar ne poučuje, skrbi za rastline in kuha s prijatelji.

lj games club – Srečanje 27: Paradox grand strategy

Iz digitalnih namiznih iger proti polni družbeni simulaciji


Čas je da gremo tja. Na februarskem gejm klubu bomo pokramljali širše o grand strategy igrah, specifično založnika/razvijalca Paradox Interactive. O prehodni fazi v kateri se žanra sedaj najde, ko zapušča vode pre-kompleksnih namiznih iger in njihovih arbitrarnih pravil in sistemov, ter z Victorio 3, sploh pa z Europo Universalis 5 potuje proti celostnem modelu človeške družbe v danem zgodovinskem trenutku.

Iz moje strani bom primarno govoril o razlikah v filozofiji dizajna med Europo Universalis 4 in 5, pa malo o Victoriji 3. Temo bi mogoče odprl tudi o Hearts of Iron 4 in o tem kako kako je pomagal pri porastu moderne skrajne desnice.

Pa nekaj besed o:

  • Primerjava s konvencionalnimi strategijami

  • Sploh pa me zanima VAŠA izkušnja s tako zelo specifično in pogosto nedostopno žanro.


Paradox igre so znane po njihovi kompleksnosti, zato spodaj prilagam seznam relevantnih iger, zraven njih pa prilagam oceno kompleksnosti ter igrino zgodovinsko obdobje. Za sodelovanje v debati priporočam, da si vzamete cca ~1 uro v eni izmed iger na seznamu. Ne pričakujte polnega razumevanja, želim si le iskren poskus učenja in aklimacije k igri. Priporočam, da igro raje kot po oceni kompleksnosti izberete po ključu vašega najljubšega zgodovinskega obdobja :)

From digital board games to full social simulation
It's time we go there. At the February game club, we will chat broadly about grand strategy games, specifically from the publisher/developer Paradox Interactive. About the transitional phase in which the genre now finds itself, as it leaves the waters of over-complex board games and their arbitrary rules and systems, towards Victoria 3, and especially with Europa Universalis 5, as it heads towards a full simulative model of human society at a given historical moment. From my side, I will primarily talk about the differences in design philosophy between Europa Universalis 4 and 5, and a little about Victoria 3. I would also perhaps open the topic about Hearts of Iron 4 and how it helped in the rise of the modern far right.

And I want to fit in a few words about:

  • Sandbox games

  • Comparison with conventional strategies

  • the DLC model

  • But I'm generally interested in YOUR experience with such a very specific and often inaccessible genre.

Paradox games are known for their complexity, so I'm attaching a list of relevant games below, along with a complexity rating and the game's historical period. To participate in the debate, I recommend that you take about ~1 hour in one of the games on the list. Don't expect full understanding, I just want an honest attempt from you to learn and acclimatize to the game. I recommend choosing a game based on your favorite historical period rather than the complexity rating :)

13. januar v PLACu, natančna navodila kje v PLACu se vidimo bom poslal na dan srečanja.

Ali lahko prideš na vrh? Januarja se bomo pogovarjale_i o igri, kjer s klapo poskušaš podati na vrh gore. Treba bo koordinirati kdo bo nosil kaj, si podajati roke in poskrbeti da niste lačne. Le tako vam bo uspelo preplezati vse nivoje gore.

PEAK je co-op igra o plezanju gore, kjer igralkeci uporabljajo glasovni klepet, ki je aktivan na podlagi razdalje avatarjev. Igro se da igrati v skupini ali samostojno, a bi toplo priporočal da uporabiš discord kanal ( #peak ) da zorganiziraš kakšen PEAK session z drugimi udeleženkamici kluba ali prijatelji_cami. Kakšni dve uri igranja bosta dovolj za diskusijo.

Igra je na volju na steamu za 7,50€ (trenutno na popustu za 4,5€) in toplo priporočamo da jo kupite. Možno pa je tudi sneti piratsko kopijo na našem discordu.


Teme pogovora bodo:

  • “friendslop” in kooperativne igre,

  • plezanje v igrah,

  • mehanika dnevnega generiranja igralnega sveta,

  • hitri cikli razvoja iger.

Meeting 26 - PEAK (2 hours)

Can you make it to the top? In January we will talk about a game where you and the gang try to climb on top of a mountain. You will need to coordinate who will carry what, extend hands to each other to climb further and make sure you don’t go hungry. Only in that way will you be able to climb through all levels of the mountain. 

PEAK is a co-op game about climbing where the players use proximity voice chat. It can be played in a group or solo, but I strongly suggest you use the discord channel ( #peak ) to organise a session with other participants or friends. About two hours of gameplay should be enough for the discussion.

On steam the game costs 7,50€  (discounted to 4,5 rn) and I strongly recommend you buy it. However its also possible to get a pirated copy in our discord.

Srečanje 24 - Novo, vintage, retro

11. novembra v knjigarni MSUM

Pravijo, da se zgodovina ponavlja, trendi morajo umreti, da spet zacvetijo, čez sedem let pa vse prav pride. Ti reki dobro opišejo številne panoge v zadnjih letih, od iger do glasbe in tudi mode. Vintage in retro gibanja večinoma z veseljem sprejemajo nove člane, hkrati pa se soočajo z več težavami: s pritiski software industrije, ki po eni plati poskuša zatreti ohranjanje starih programov, po drugi pa želi na ta račun zaslužiti, s preglavicami pri vzdrževanju in ohranjanju stare mašinerije, katere načrtovana življenjska doba je že zdavnaj potekla, ter s porastom preprodajalcev, ki računajo na povpraševanje in poskusijo na račun pompa čim več zaslužiti.

Debata bo tekla o nostalgiji, kulturnih in tehnoloških retro gibanjih ter vlogi emulacije pri ohranjanju kulturne dediščine.

Udeleženke si izberite igro, ki sama po sebi ne dela na sodobnih računalnikih ali telefonih (je stara, narejena za konzole ipd.), jo na tak ali drugačen način spravite v pogon in preigrajte vsaj uvod ali prvo poglavje igre. Igro poljubno izberite po okusu, slovesu, ali ker se vam pač zdi zanimiva.

Meeting #24 - New, Vintage, Retro.,

It is said history repeats itself, trends must die to be reborn, and what's old is new again. This has never been more true than in recent years, with retro trends well and truly breaking through into the mainstream in everything from music to games, as well as fashion. Vintage and retro movements are usually happy to accept newcomers, but they simultaneously struggle with several problems: the pressures of a software industry trying to prevent the reuse of old software, while at the same time attempting to profit off it, the difficulty of maintaining old systems, which were never intended to be used this long, and an alarming rise in market scalping, attempting to profit off hype. 

Discussion topics will revolve around nostalgia, retro movements in technological and culture spaces, and emulation as a means of preserving cultural heritage. 

Participants should choose a game which does not natively run on modern computers or phones (due to age, having been made for a console, etc.), get it to work, and play the intro or the first chapter of the game. Choose based on your personal preferences, the game's reputation, or simply because it looks cool.

ljgames.club v Maribor-u: Betrayal At Club Low

ljgames.club tokrat v sodelovanju z Mednarodnim festivalom računalniške umetnosti gostujemo v Mariboru! V okviru programa MFRU bomo format igranja in diskutiranja iger prinesli na štajersko. Ta bo potekala 3. oktobra ob 19:00 v Kulturnem inkubatorju (Koroška cesta 18, 2000 Maribor), zaradi mednarodne zasedbe pa bo pogovor potekal v angleščini. 

Betreyal at Club Low je ezoteričen cRPG (računalniška igra vlog), ki nas postavi v noge agenta. Podali se bomo skozi underground kulturo zvezne države New Kroy, da rešimo tovariša. A pot skozi lokalno sceno je težka in biti dovolj kul, da nam karkoli uspe je …. težko.

Socialna scena New Kroya bo od igralke zahtevala pošten razmislek o tem v katere sposobnosti investirati svoj virtualen denar. Kuhanje? FIzične sposobnopsti? Brihtnost? Hipsterska scena je kr heva in mogoče bo potreben kakšen restart, a z dobrim zapravljanjem denarja bomo zmagali v metu kock še proti najbolj non-chalant modelom.

Igra spremeni (socialne) interakcije v  zelo osnovno manipulacijo številk: met kocke. Ta kocka ni del sistema, ki poganja igro in se skriva pred igralcem, tudi ni milenjsko minimalističen poskus prikazovanja da je včasih manj več. Je le zelo odkrito ljubeznesko pismo sistemov družabnih iger

Cosmo D, ustvarjalec igre, je bivši čelist, ki je do sedaj izdal 5 iger znotraj istega sveta v katerem se dogaja Club Low. Njegova dela so talilni lonec kultur New Yorka preslikana na digitalno platno računalniških ekranov postavljena pa v lynčevsko atmosfero, ki jo spremljajo funk komadi..

Za aktivno sodelovanje v diskusiji priporočamo, da preigraš demo (45-60 min), ki je brezplačen na steamu in je dostopen za vse operacijske sisteme.

ljgames.club is hosting a special edition of our meetups in collaboration with IFCA (International Festival of Computer Arts). As a part of their programme we’re bringing the book club for games format to styria. The discussion will hold place on the 3rd of October at 19:00 in the Cultural Incubator (Koroška cesta 18, 2000 Maribor).

Betrayal at Club Low is an esoteric cRPG (computer role-playing game) that places us in the role of an agent. We will venture into the underground culture of the federal state of New Kroy with the aim of rescuing a comrade. But the path through the local scene is challenging, and being cool enough to succeed is... difficult.

The social scene in New Kroy will require player to carefully consider which skills to invest their virtual money in. Cooking? Physical abilities? Intelligence? The hipster scene can be tough, and a reboot may be necessary, but with wise spending, we will win the dice roll even against the most nonchalant models.

The game transforms (social) interactions into a very basic manipulation of numbers: rolling of a dice. This dice is not part of the system that drives the game and is hidden from the player, nor is it a millennial minimalist attempt to show that sometimes less is more. It is simply a very honest love letter to social gaming systems.

Cosmo D, the game's creator, is a former cellist who has released five games set in the same world as Club Low. His works are a melting pot of New York cultures transferred to the digital canvas of computer screens and set in a Lynchian atmosphere accompanied by funk tracks.

Srečanje 22 - Bloodborne PSX, Dark Souls remakeov

Po poročanju portala Kotaku so v letu 2023 med desetimi najbolje ocenjenimi igrami na platformi Metacritic kar devet predstavljali remakei. Trend predelovanja in posodabljanja iger je sprožil razprave o ohranjanju digitalnih medijev, o tem, kdaj je predelava upravičena, in, v skrajnem primeru, kaj sploh predelujemo - problem Tezejevega Skyrima, kjer je različic toliko, da težko določimo, kaj se pravzaprav sploh še predeluje.

Toliko bolj nenavadno potem, da ena najbolje ocenjenih iger razvijalca FromSoftware, Bloodborne, nikoli ni prejela posodobitve za novejše sisteme. Vsaka predstavitev lastnika intelektualne lastnine, Sony, sproži val špekulacij, da bo morda končno napovedan remake ali vsaj posodobljena izdaja. Namesto uradne posodobitve je leta 2022 razvijalka Lilith Walker na platformi itch.io izdala Bloodborne PSX - predelavo začetka igre z retro estetiko originalnega PlayStationa. Poleg nostalgičnega videza in preoblikovanega začetnega nivoja, z novo postavitvijo sovražnikov in prostora, je igra pritegnila številne igralce, saj je končno omogočila uporabnikom PC-jev, da izkusijo igro, pregrajeno za nakupom PS4, preden je to omogočala emulacija. Po odmevni izdaji je Sony zaradi kršitve avtorskih pravic odstranil s platforme, zato je danes dostopna le prek arhiviranih kopij iz druge roke.

Na srečanju se bomo pogovarjale_i o Bloodborne PSX, retro predelavah, intelektualni lastnini in ohranjanju videoiger. Za pripravo na pogovor si preigrajte Bloodborne PSX, ki je dostopen na povezavi archive.org. Za primerjavo je priporočljivo, da preigrate ali pa si na YouTubu ogledate začetni nivo Bloodbornea.

Meeting 22 - Bloodborne PSX, the Dark Souls of remakes,

According to Kotaku, in 2023, nine out of the ten highest rated games on Metacritic were remakes. This surge in remaking and remastering games has sparked debates around digital preservation, when remakes are justified, and - in extreme cases like 'the Skyrim of Theseus' - what is even being remastered anymore. It’s all the more surprising, then, that Bloodborne, one of FromSoftware’s most acclaimed titles, has yet to receive a remake or remaster.

Every new presentation by Sony, which owns the intellectual property, fuels intense speculation that a remake or remaster might finally happen. In lieu of an official update, developer Lilith Walker released a 'demake' of Bloodborne in 2022. Bloodborne PSX reimagines the game’s opening level with the retro aesthetic of the original PlayStation. Beyond its nostalgic visuals and redesigned enemy and level layout, the game drew attention for giving new players a chance to experience the PS4 exclusive title on PC before emulation was possible. Following its release, Sony issued a takedown notice, and the game is now only available via third-party archival sources.

At our next meeting, we’ll be discussing Bloodborne PSX, demakes, intellectual property, and the preservation of video games.
