How might rainfall in the Galápagos change with climate variability?

Using a new measurement network (incl. vertical rain radar), we find:

• Warmer conditions → more rainfall, also more intense events
• More convective activity
• Inversion layer cool season weakened
• Cooler conditions → weaker, more variable rainfall

Overall: more water in a warmer world, but also higher risk from heavy rainfall.

Happy to discuss!

It's funny that people are concerned about being exposed to a naked body on the Internet, but they're not concerned about the ramifications of being exposed to this onslaught of commercialism from an early age and its impact on the value systems of children.

My theory is that as the world improves, expectations rise even faster, leading to the persistent illusion that the world was better in the past. The only time the illusion is punctured is when a society is successfully digging out of a very big slump.

Tale of the lava heron: Student describes new Galapagos species

The Galapagos Islands are famous for the discoveries that shaped Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Now an SFSU graduate has added one more: Ezra Mendales (M.S., '23) describes a new species as part of his master's thesis. "I feel super lucky with this project. I think we fell into this beautiful story that is really rare," Mendales said of his work with SFSU Associate Professor Jaime Chaves and California Academy of Sciences Ornithology Curator Jack Dumbacher.

Female #Galápagos yellow #warblers engage in frequent vocal singing, but unlike their male counterparts, their songs do not function as signals for territorial defense or same-sex competition. Instead, their vocalizations appear to facilitate communication within a mated pair.

Female song in Galápagos warblers challenges assumptions about birdsong

This research directly challenges decades of scientific bias that treated birdsong as an exclusively male trait driven by sexual selection

It comes down to a question of attention: it's difficult to use the Net distractedly, unlike the television or the radio.
