#Villach 🇦🇹 Hauptbahnhof in the early 2000s: pictured here is a pair of #ÖBB Class 5047 diesel units, displaying two slightly different liveries. These units used to work regional services on the #Gailtalbahn to Hermagor and beyond, to Kötschach-Mauthen.

An #ÖBB 🇦🇹 Class 5022 #Desiro diesel unit is pictured here. This is the #Gailtalbahn in rural #Carinthia #Kärnten #Koroška. I’ve taken this photo in May 2016 near Nötsch while on a cycling tour. The line has since been electrified and sees hourly S-Bahn workings.

An #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #Villach to #Kötschach-Mauthen regional train is seen here at #Warmbad-Villach in September 1989. A class 2043 diesel, back then the mainstay on #Gailtalbahn services, is leading a consist of #Schlieren carriages which also includes a freight wagon.

An #ÖBB 🇦🇹 class 4746 #Siemens #DesiroML #CityJet is seen here on the #Gailtalbahn, working a #Carinthia S4 S-Bahn service bound for #Hermagor. The train just passes the village of #Görtschach with its little church, dating back to 1478, and visible above the centre of the train.

#Görtschach_Förolach 🇦🇹 on the #Gailtalbahn 16 years earlier, in September 2007. Before the line was electrified, there were two tracks at this station, making train meets possible. #ÖBB class 5047 diesel railcars were the mainstay of the - two hourly - service back then. 2/2

Good morning from #Carinthia #Kärnten #Koroška 🇦🇹. As the mist dissipates, the #Gailtalbahn cyclist‘s train makes its return trip from #Hermagor to #Villach. This service comes with a large bicycle van and is worked by an #ÖBB class 1144 electric.

Next to the hourly #Carinthia #Kärnten #Koroška S4 S-Bahn service, the #Gailtalbahn in southern #Austria 🇦🇹 sees some modest freight activity. At lunchtime today I was taken by surprise outside #Nötsch by this eastbound timber load, worked by an #ÖBB class 2068 diesel.
