Still grading student projects. Next year I'm going to tell students they lose extra points if they do silly things apparently because they were copying other students' strategies instead of reading instructions. I'm very tired of scientific posters with the sections (e.g., Results, Discussion, Method, etc.) arranged by ease of fitting them on the poster--in other words, pure chaos--and posters with every fucking paragraph center-aligned. Every one. Ten posters at least.

Reminding myself every ten minutes for the last few days that I do actually like most of my students.

Was just looking into "modern unix tools" as I tend to do sometimes; came across this and am blown away folks are fine with yolo-ing binaries off the internet 😬 whether it be through npm, this tool, or the many other avenues (eg. the common place curling a script from the internet and running it 🙃 )

@wavesculptor PS We've had to accept that the biggest and most complex panels won't get done before Christmas.So that means that we things manually. When I say "we" what I really mean is my friends and allies will be in on Monday and Tuesday and flip a bunch of switches to turn things off one by one. It;ll be different in 2026. Along the way we've uncovered a pile of systems that work poorly and have done for years. And this taking me down a deep maintenance rabbit hole… #GAH!!!
