Musk's own pet AI project thinks he's a Nazi.

Twitter recently launched Grok 3, the third iteration of its AI chatbot that Musk has praised as “maximally truth-seeking.” So here at the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE), we thought we’d find out what Grok thinks is the truth about Musk.

GPAHE ran a series of queries through Grok about Musk’s hateful online rhetoric, his links to extremists, and his far-right activism. The results were, to say the least, unflattering. Grok describes Musk as “dangerous” because “his position and megaphone make him a force multiplier for an ideology that’s already lethal.” Grok concluded that Musk fits the “fascist mold,” while his history of antisemitic comments places him “a step beyond generic fascism into Third Reich territory.”

Grok justifies this position by citing Musk’s rhetoric relating to the white supremacist “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, which Musk has touted; his endorsement of the far-right Alternative Für Deutschland (Alternative For Germany, AfD) party in Germany; and his boosting of antisemitic and other hateful content.

I trust the folks at GPAHE generally and Heidi Beirich specifically as researchers, but I do just want to say that I object strongly to some of the links in this article that point toward the material being addressed, where screenshots and detailed descriptions would have sufficed. There's no need to drive traffic toward these people or to make their propaganda more accessible to people who haven't already done a lot of prior research. The authors should know as well as anyone how easy it is for that kind of material to start to normalize extremely bad ideas even in the minds of well-meaning people.

Still, I'm posting this because it's a really good graphic demonstration of why Meta is just unsalvageable. People have all kinds of reasons for staying on shitty platforms, and I'm not going to go after anyone for that. But if you've been on the fence, there's a decent chance that this could be the thing that gets you to give up Instagram once and for all. It's a garbage site that is cool with genocidal images and ideas, and alternatives are increasingly widely available. It's well past time to start building something new and better.

I recommend reading this whole article. The relationship between, on the one hand, conspiracy theorists and these kinds of militia groups and, on the other hand, "the government," including when it's headed by Trump, is a little bit complicated. Still, this passage is a decent summary of the whole thing:

Although national media attention has moved on from the hurricane, VOP [Veterans on Patrol] appears to have adopted the belief that it was a military attack on domestic targets into their belief systems, and this may have intensified their anti-government posture, with Donald Trump and Republicans being portrayed as complicit in the events.

The day after Trump was re-elected, the main account posted that “the US Military is currently poisoning the skies of Western North Carolina after it has already destroyed this area with Weather Weapon Helene”.

The account claimed that “American children are dying from fentanyl pouring across the border, bioweapons jabbed in their arms, and the poisons being absorbed that come straight from the US military”, with the referenced “bioweapon” being the Covid-19 vaccine.

The account has repeatedly pointed to Trump’s role in producing the Covid-19 vaccine as a reason that he cannot be trusted.

Members of the group have now melded their claims about the hurricane – and plans to strike equipment they believe to be used for controlling the weather – with long-held beliefs that “directed energy weapons” and “stratospheric aerosol injections” or chemtrails are being wielded by the government against the American people.
