En un día de sueño y molestias en la espalda, he buscado Glum. Al parecer, su letra ha macerado en mí con celeridad, pues la conozco hace uno o dos días nada más.

No me extraña, tiene ese punto lordiano de vivir una etapa rara, de sentir que no encajas, expresado de modo directo y literario a la vez. Ese punto de cocción tan arduo de alcanzar. Chef kiss.

Ya Chenta lanzó una maqueta, Se me da mal ser mayor, donde revelaba sentirse o haberse sentido así. Torpe. En pañales. Detrás de. Incluso la Perry lo hizo en la apañada Teenage Dream, esa que conmovió a Lorde, por cerrar el círculo lo agrego.

Fuera de Paramore, Hayley Williams ha lanzado un chorro de canciones (dejo enlace al artículo que encontré) y es Glum la que me toca.

Ayuda a conectar con ella el tono, delicado y algo lánguido, pero nunca monótono ni triste. Glum tiene que ser cantada, hay que mecerse en y con ella, no llorar. Y la hermosa melodía atemporal. Y la temática. Ahí se asimila a una pariente de la clásica Crying in Public de Chairlift.

A diferencia de esta, el tema de Hayley opta por un tono de balada rock acertadísimo, y lo transita entre guitarras noventeras del underground, inesperados efectos vocales etéreos pero bien elegidos y cosidos (me remiten a una frontera entre el último Bowie y FKA Twigs, que al final, en la voz de Williams acaban remitiendo a la Gwen de No Doubt) y, unos estribillos tatareables, pegadizos, que impiden lo que ya dije: hacerla una canción de llorera, que no, que no es eso, tiene vuelo, a ras de suelo, sí, y no mujer contra mujer.

Es una canción para el coche, para performar ante el espejo, para sentir que protagonizas un video en blanco y negro, de esas que terminan y te permiten seguir con tu vida tras haberte dado un descanso de ella de tres minutos.

Now, I know the news is dire, the sky is melting, and your favourite show has been booted into the cancellation abyss where all excellent things go to be forgotten by television executives with absolutely no taste. This is what I call a Grade A emotional scorcher.

Here is my solution. Stop everything, fling open your sock drawer, and select the most cooling pair you own. Preferably something breezy, made of a loose weave, or possibly crocheted by an eccentric aunt with a passion for ventilation. Slip them on, place your feet in a salad bowl of chilled custard, and recite comforting phrases from my book, “Keep Calm and Boil the Kettle Anyway.”

The heatwave? Wear a hat with its own shade system. I sell a model called the “SilliBrolly” which is essentially a gazebo you strap to your shoulders. Not entirely door-friendly, but marvellous for spontaneous shade.

And the cancelled show? Just act out all the episodes yourself in sock puppet form. Invite neighbours. Charge admission. Recast the lead as a pineapple. Nothing heals like interpretive fruit theatre.
