@Guinnessy To add to that, the technical and regulatory problems have now been solved with the development and FAA-approval of Avgas G100UL as a drop-in replacement for Avgas 100LL for all spark-ignition aviation piston engines. Yes, all of them.

The remaining problems are logistics and political will.

Find out more about GAMI's G100UL® high octane unleaded aviation gasoline.

"California FBOs Told To Stop Selling 100LL, Switch To G100UL" by @AVweb (h/t @WiredForFlight ) - 10 year old court order in California goes into effect now that unleaded avgas is "available", though production is not yet ready for such scale https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/california-fbos-ordered-to-stop-selling-100ll-switch-to-g100ul/ #G100UL #aviation #pilot #avgeek
California FBOs Told To Stop Selling 100LL, Switch To G100UL - AVweb

Most if not all FBOs in California will be required to replace 100LL with General Aviation Modifications Inc.’s (GAMI’s) G100UL starting in the first half of 2024 thanks to a nine-year-old court ruling. That consent judgment, issued in favor of the Center for Environmental Health in December of 2014 by the California Superior Court in […]

@Bcollinsmn Maybe the sooner #100LL is phased out, the sooner refineries will start making #G100UL in quantity.

Looks like George Braly of GAMI and #G100UL has really upset some people. Linking airport funding to mandated sale of #100LL, meaning we can't realistically switch to an unleaded fuel, since airports cannot afford tanks for both. That’s disappointing. Write your congress critters and get that language pulled. We need to get the lead out of aviation fuel.

New FAA Reauthorization Bill Would Prohibit Removing 100LL From Airports - AVweb

The just-passed House FAA Reauthorization Bill would prevent airports from removing 100LL or offering unleaded fuels in lieu of leaded avgas under penalty of losing airport improvement grants. If the language remains in the Senate version of the bill, it would raise a nearly insurmountable barrier to fielding competitive unleaded fuels because many airports […]

Unleaded #G100UL #aviation fuel is FAA-approved for all piston aircraft engines as of last fall. #A2Council must ask airport management to do what they can to make this new fuel available at #ARB sooner rather than later. Maybe we can’t ban the leaded 100LL, but we should accelerate the transition any way we can. #AnnArbor does not want #lead in our air and soil.

Super stoked about this! FINALLY, unleaded 100 octane gasoline is FAA-certified for general aviation aircraft. We’ve been waiting for this for 50 years and it’s finally here!
