It's Furoshiki Friday!
Wrapping gifts is cool, but the more day to day use of a furoshiki is carrying things. Here's how to make one of several types of bags. I use a 100cm (35 in) piece of square cloth (the same size as a headscarf), and I use it to carry my laptop and lunch to the office.
1. Fold the furoshiki into a triangle so it is facing inside out.
2. Tie the two opposing corners into single knots.
3. Turn the furoshiki inside out.
4. Tie the remaining corners together with a square knot to create a bag.
That's it! This works great over the shoulder. Adjusting the length in step two makes the bag more or less open. I prefer this one with larger cloths when I want to put it on my shoulder, but smaller ones would make cute handheld bags, too.
