Furious Fiction: March 2026 Story Showcase

What a month! Without fully grasping just how much of a talking point our location prompt would become in the weeks that have followed, we innocently set March’s creative challenge. Here were the story prompts: Your story had to take place in a PETROL/GAS STATION. Your story had to feature a camera. You had to […]…

#FuriousFiction

A post popped up in my Facebook timeline memories on Monday morning after I'd submitted my story for the Australian Writers' Centre's March 2026 Furious Fiction.

In the post, I'd commented that I didn't know how I'd written and submitted my March 2025 entry given my busy weekend back then.

It was also a timely reminder that I hadn't shared the story, Alone in the Sauna, with readers on Tall And True. So that's what I did this morning! ✍️

Alone in the Sauna

Jez closed her eyes, took a deep breath, savouring the hot, dry air of the sauna in her nostrils and the sweat on her skin.

Tada! My 6th March Furious Fiction since 2020 submitted. I can't tell you much about it until the Australian Writers' Centre announces the (blind-judged) showcased and longlisted stories at the end of the month. Except that I loved writing my Furious Fiction short story over the weekend, as always! ❤️

I've written the first draft for the Australian Writers' Centre's March 2026 Furious Fiction, with 1 day, 6 hours, and 50 minutes of editing and proofreading to go before the Sunday midnight deadline. I hope the short stories are coming together for fellow Furious Fiction writers! 🤞🍀🐇

It's Furious Fiction time again so I'll be busy writing all weekend ... soon! 🙄 #writers #writing #furiousfiction #shortstory #gardening

I've shared my sci-fi short story for the Australian Writers' Centre's February Furious Fiction. The brief included that the story's theme had to be "EIGHT". 🚀

The Sol Eight Expedition

The captain noticed muttering among his crew. He shared their frustration. A faulty interstellar drive had slowed the ship's speed.

A blog post about how a friend and I started with the same theme for Australian Writers' Centre's February 2026 Furious Fiction, wrote two widely different stories, and both made the longlist for the month! ✍️

Furious Fiction — One Theme, Two Stories

My friend Gav Harris and I both made the longlist for February 2026's Furious Fiction writing challenge with our widely different stories.

Furious Fiction: February 2026 Story Showcase

This month, Furious Fiction celebrated EIGHT years of creative challenges! So what better than an appropriate theme to test your 500-words-or-fewer storytelling skills? Here were this month’s story prompts: Each story’s theme had to be ‘EIGHT’. Each story had to include two characters meeting for the first time. Each story had to include the following […]…

This post popped up while migrating my Tall And True Short Reads podcast website to a new platform. I'd forgotten how I lost and found one of my #FuriousFiction stories. And that I didn't recognise its plot and characters! 🤔

The Lost and Found Story

I only realised I'd 'lost' my August 2023 short story when I started working on a blog post to mark four years of Furious Fictions.

@tallandtrue Thanks, and all the best to you too, Robert. And I know what you mean about getting a story written. That's how I approach the #FuriousFiction weekend, whatever the outcome at their end.
