I had a chat with the #Fold3 gentleman (they were wearing fantastic shirts!). American Rev War is their first to use AI. They are happy with the results and will be moving on to other wars.

I find Fold3 incredibly useful but extremely "Clunky" to use. This should be a great improvement to be able to read some records better.

Fascinating People here…

Since folks can't decide who and what is to be #CW'd, I'll continue to use #hastags the way I do so, you can all either block/mute those and/or search for them, because #FullTextSearch and #CWs don't work consistently and the only issues re: #hashtag useage are IMHO #client-related.

Brand new “don’t ask me to cw my posts, use filters instead” from the people who brought you “don’t ask me not to use weird euphemisms for things. I need those for evading filters”

@geneapleau I too have had some great success with the full text search. Particularly with #wills, finding those executors and beneficiaries you might never have otherwise located. #familysearch #fulltextsearch #genealogy @genealogy

💡 For the first time I just submitted a proposal for a new (small) feature in #django ; it's related to #fulltextsearch in #postgresql , especially for non-English websites/webapps . You can use Github reactions to let me know what you think about it 😉

Just shipped a new hands-on tutorial:
Native Full-Text Search in Quarkus with PostgreSQL — no Elasticsearch, no extra infra.

We build:
• tsvector + tsquery search
• Ranking with ts_rank
• Snippets with ts_headline
• A clean Qute front end

If you want fast, simple, reliable search for docs or blogs, Postgres already has everything you need.

Read it here:

@gdt Do you mean ActivityPub? That seems culturally opposed to search.
The general ActivityPub community isn't.

Large parts of the Mastodon community are. But a whole lot of things in the Fediverse that aren't Mastodon have had full-text search since their respective inception, some even since before Mastodon was made. And their users are okay with that or even happy about it.

The Fediverse is much more than Mastodon and stuff bolted onto Mastodon as an extra feature.

The #FullTextSearch may be a bit broken now, I'm going to switch that over to our new instance as well so it may take a little bit for it to re-index all of the content that should be in the search engine.
