Im September hatte ich euch die gleiche Szene am #HumboldtForum in #Berlin schon gezeigt – eine wenige Sekunden früher aufgenommen Aufnahme. Bei dieser Aufnahme hier konnte ich die störende vertikale Trennlinie (Dehnungsfuge?) durch den Zuschnitt entfernen. Dafür ist der Mann sehr in die Ecke gerückt. Das extreme Breitformat ist auch nicht möglich – 4:3 ist für dieses Medium vermutlich sowieso die bessere Wahl.

In September, I showed you the same scene at the #HumboldtForum in #Berlin – a shot taken a few seconds earlier. In this shot, I was able to remove the distracting vertical dividing line (expansion joint?) by cropping it out. As a result, the man is pushed further into the corner. The extreme wide format is also not possible – 4:3 is probably the better choice for this medium anyway.

Bei 1/30s sehen die Schwalben schon extreeeeem in die Länge gezogen aus. Bizarr. Zur blauen Stunde war aber nicht mehr so viel Licht vorhanden und die Schwalben hatten sich eher ungefragt ins Bild „geschlichen“.

At 1/30s, the swallows look extremely elongated. Bizarre. But at blue hour, there wasn't much light left, and the swallows had rather uninvitedly „sneaked“ into the picture.

Dieses Foto – entstanden bei einem Berlin-Besuch im September, wahrscheinlich Unter den Linden – hatte ich schon aussortiert. Zum Glück bekam es durch Zufall noch eine zweite Chance. Ich stand dort genau auf dem Leitstreifen und der U-Bahnzug hatte perfekt dazu gehalten. Ich hatte zwischen den vorbeieilenden Menschen einige Male den Auslöser betätigt. Eines der Fotos stach auch heraus, verlor dann aber wohl unter den anderen guten Fotos, die an dem Tag entstanden. Zum Glück noch rechtzeitig wiederentdeckt und durch einen passenden Beschnitt hat es nochmal deutlich gewonnen.

Der quadratische Ausschnitt wirkt auf den ersten Blick symmetrisch – ist aber leicht nach links verschoben. So ist vor der Person links kein störender gelber Bereich sichtbar und von der Person rechts ist etwas mehr zu sehen. Ich mag die Staffelung der beiden Personen in die Tiefe und den Gegensatz zwischen der Bewegung der Menschen und dem Stillstand des U-Bahnzugs. Zudem sind alle Personen durch Unschärfe oder Position kaum der Anonymität entrissen, die der Ort ausstrahlt. Das einzige Gesicht ist durch die Scheibe so schemenhaft abgebildet, dass es fast eine Spiegelung sein könnte. Und wo ich bei Gegensätzen bin: nach der gestrigen beschaulichen Dorfszene in Schwarzweiß darf es dann heute diese lebendige urbane Szene mit knalligem Gelb sein.

I had already discarded this photo, taken during a visit to Berlin in September, probably on Unter den Linden. Fortunately, it got a second chance by chance. I was standing right on the guide strip and the subway train had stopped perfectly. I pressed the shutter button a few times between the people rushing by. One of the photos stood out, but then got lost among the other good photos taken that day. Fortunately, I rediscovered it in time and, with a suitable crop, it gained significantly.

At first glance, the square section appears symmetrical, but it is slightly shifted to the left. This means that there is no distracting yellow area visible in front of the person on the left, and a little more of the person on the right can be seen. I like the staggering of the two people in depth and the contrast between the movement of the people and the stillness of the subway train. In addition, blurring and positioning ensure that all the people are barely torn from the anonymity that the location exudes. The only face is so faintly visible through the window that it could almost be a reflection. And while I'm on the subject of contrasts: after yesterday's tranquil village scene in black and white, today it's time for this lively urban scene with its bright yellow.

S-Bahnhof Berlin Friedrichstraße, Sep 2025
Der gelbe Schirm des Guides, die Reflexion in der großen Pfütze und dazu die sechseckige Bahnhofsuhr. Okay, der Schirm hat acht Ecken. Trotzdem genug Gründe, sich mit der Kamera vor die Pfütze zu knien. Als ich mich entfernte, bemerkte ich jemanden, der mit seinem Smartphone vor der Pfütze saß. Wir kamen noch miteinander ins Gespräch. Er hatte mich beobachtet und die Intention für das Foto verstanden. Ich kehrte nach einigen Minuten zurück und er hockte wieder vor der Pfütze: ein zweiter Guide mit gelbem Schirm war dazugekommen. “There are two of them now!” So hockten wir dann beide vor der großen Pfütze. Ob uns dabei jemand fotografiert hat, ist nicht bekannt.

Still, enough reasons to kneel down in front of the puddle with my camera. As I walked away, I noticed someone sitting in front of the puddle with his smartphone. We got talking. He had been watching me and understood why I wanted to take the photo. I returned a few minutes later and he was again crouched in front of the puddle: a second guide with a yellow umbrella had joined him. “There are two of them now!” So we both crouched in front of the large puddle. It is not known whether anyone took a photo of us.

Eingang zum S-Bahnhof Berlin Zoologischer Garten, Sep 2025
Diese leicht heruntergekommene Optik des Eingangs hat etwas schwer in Worte zu fassendes. Charme des Verfalls, Ästhetik der Vergänglichkeit? Wer auch immer an dem Tag das „Einfahrt verboten“-Verkehrsschild neben dem Eingang an die Wand gelehnt hat – es fügt sich gut in diese Ästhetik ein und setzt auch noch einen zweiten Farbakzent in Komplementärfarbe.

There is something about the slightly run-down appearance of the entrance that is difficult to put into words. The charm of decay, the aesthetics of transience? Whoever leaned the “No Entry” traffic sign against the wall next to the entrance that day—it fits in well with this aesthetic and also adds a second accent in a complementary color.

Unfassbar, dass ich dort nur etwa zwei Minuten gewartet habe, bis dieser Herr mit (farblich passendem!) Hut dort entlang lief. Ohne den Rucksack wäre es perfekt gewesen. Aber ich wollte mein Glück nicht herausfordern und lieber weiter nach anderen schönen Motiven in Berlin suchen.

It's unbelievable that I only waited there for about two minutes until this gentleman with a (color-matching!) hat walked by. Without the backpack, it would have been perfect. But I didn't want to push my luck and decided to continue searching for other beautiful motifs in Berlin.
