US austerity was generosity compared to what Tories did in the UK.
First they decapitated most public services and NHS under the guise of austerity.
Then they blamed immigrants when the voters started noticing deteriorating services. Despite the fact that immigrants are generally younger so net contributors in taxes and barely using stressed public services.
This won them another election and got us Brexit. Which has further hurt the economy, laying the ground for more cycles of austerity, worse public services, and more immigrant blaming.
