Apparently, not satisfied with banning books from school libraries, Danielle Smith and the UCP now want to ban books from all public libraries across the province. ๐
I JUST got my library card late last year and I read a LOT of queer books. I have so many on my list to read. I just took down a huge list of books someone recommended to Murderbot Diaries fans, and some of those are YA novels.
I'm so fucking sick of this government. Have I even posted about the 15-question referendum they want to do this fall, with questions like "should we give immigrants access to social services and health care?" Fuck this fucking government. Fuck them so hard.

"Be ready for a Brexit-style disinformation campaign, weak opposition and turmoil."
Uuuugggghhhhhh hate them hate them hate them HATE THEM SO MUCH.
Hey separatists, this is treaty land and you can't just take it away like that, not without a fight.
Also people like me are Albertan too and I sure as fuck don't want us to leave. Though if the UCP keep fucking with the disability program I might have to leave and try to apply for disability in a different fucking province.
For those unaware: the UCP are the United Conservative Party and they're currently in charge of our province. Last election there were a lot of seats won by the NDP (New Democratic Party) but not enough for them to win, but a significant amount.
I keep hearing rumours about maaayyyybe an early election being called and I sure fucking hope so.
Oh yeah and apparently only 7% of Albertans got the COVID vaccine this past fall, half the number of folks who got it last year, and significantly less than any other province.
But then, this is undoubtedly because they made it much more difficult to access, like, as a process in general. And *also* they made a number of folks have to pay to get it now.
Some of the wider UCP party base want the current political leaders to roll back the COVID vaccine even further. ;n; Like I don't think they'll be satisfied until the government stops providing it at all.
In the early hours of the morning, Bill 12 passed, which is going to upend the already-precarious financial reality that tens of thousands of disabled Albertans live in.
To quote Inclusion Alberta:
Inclusion Alberta is deeply dismayed by the passage of Bill 12, legislation that will do what no one in the disability community asked for: dramatically change the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program and introduce the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP). At a time when living costs continue to rise steeply, Bill 12 threatens 79,000 Albertans currently on AISH and their families with a 10% cut to benefits and a 67% cut to fully exempt employment income. Striking out cost-of-living increases from legislation and restricting which decisions can be appealed makes Albertans with disabilities and their families even more vulnerable.
In passing this legislation, the Government of Alberta has ignored the frightened and anxious pleas of thousands of Albertans with disabilities and their families. They, along with former leaders and advisors in governmentโs own disability programs, organizations that represent and support people with disabilities, lawyers, economists, and the Alberta Medical Association, called for pausing the plan for ADAP and engaging in genuine consultation with the disability community on what changes could enhance disability assistance in our province.
