2024 Wrapped: Top Stories That Emerged From Portland City Hall

2024 marked the last year of Portland’s commission form of government. The year was punctuated by a scramble to implement a city charter overhaul and to get City Council chambers remodeled to accommodate an incoming 12-person Council. Along the way, city leaders also responded to public pressure over public drug use and unsheltered homelessness, all during a pivotal election year. Three of Portland’s five City Council members launched a bid for mayor. None succeeded. During...

#cities punching themselves in the face dept: #Portland is discarding its bike parking requirements from building code without making any effort to make up this function out of the free or excessively cheap on-street #parking that their #transportation dept provides for cars. #urbanism #BikeTooter #bikeParking #carSupremacy #ClimateDenial #HousingCrisis #austerityGovernment #FuckTedWheeler

RT @[email protected]🤡 @tedwheeler was just clowning us when he said bicycling "needs to be a good value proposition" and then proceeds to put like five thumbs on the scale for cars, directly at the expense of the value proposition of bicycling. Better luck mayoring your next city. 🙄

So this whole work session to explain to ted and his pals that cutting the planned #parking fee increase in half has consequences. 😞 Just think of what we could be working on instead of this fuckery. #Portland #transportation #CarsRuinCities #FuckTedWheeler #Vision60or70something not #VisionZero, #ClimateWishing not #ClimateAction

"unlike a light rail train, the shuttle won't be able to avoid getting stuck in traffic, so replacing a train with a shuttle isn't a one-to-one match" 🙃 if only somebody could do something about that #pdxTraffic! Four-Month Pause on MAX Red Line Service to PDX Starts This Weekend

The longest service interruption in TriMet's history is set to start Sunday, June 18. The public transit agency will halt MAX Red Line service between the Gateway Transit Center and Portland International Airport (PDX) for 126 days. The closure will leave PDX and three other Red Line stops—Mt. Hood, Cascades, and the Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center—without light rail service as TriMet works to complete renovations for its "A Better Red" project....

Kinda interesting that tedwheeler didn’t say nuthin when BIKETOWNpdx rates went up 50% but he set PBOT’s budget on fire to save drivers from having to pay an extra 80 cents every two hours.
I drove a car in #pdxTraffic today and can definitely say again it is still way too cheap and easy #fuckTedWheeler to drive into and through what should be a car-free district, and nobody knows which lane to be in because ODOT can't hang a wayfinding sign in the right place even if their jobs depend on it. #ODOTGTFOpdx, #BanCars from downtown, put a lid on i405, and just connect every downtown freeway ramp directly to a city owned parking garage.

PPB can't wait to shoot somebody in the face for a missing turn signal while turning a blind eye to rampant speeding and 85th percentile drivers' inability to keep a car between the lines of a 12ft lane while checking their notifs
