Nachdem WhatsApp von Meta gekauft wurde, hat Meta die App immer weiter zerstört. Heute ist von den damaligen Grundwerten vor dem Kauf nicht mehr viel übrig. Meta hatte damals versprochen an den Grundwerten zu halten. WhatsApp sammelt deine Daten, um damit Geld zu machen, das sollte kein Geheimnis mehr sein. Es ist jedoch erschreckend wie viele Daten WhatsApp wirklich von dir sammelt, dazu in einem zukünftigen Post mehr.

Welche Alternativen gibt es?

Signal: Die wohl bekannteste Alternative ist Signal. Signal ist ein kostenloser Messenger, der großen Wert auf Datenschutz legt. Der Messenger finanziert sich ausschließlich durch Spenden und nicht durch den Verkauf deiner Daten. Der Messenger ist außerdem Open-Source.

Threema: Threema ist ein Messenger aus der Schweiz. Dieser ist jedoch kostenpflichtig aber auch dieser Messenger legt einen sehr großen Wert auf Datenschutz. Für die Registrierung bei Threema brauchst du nicht mal zwingend eine Telefonnummer. Der Messenger ist außerdem Open-Source.

Und was ist mit Telegram? Telegram ist keine gute Alternative, da die Nachrichten auf den Servern von Telegram gespeichert werden und das ohne eine Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung.

If you have to use Meta platforms for any reason, here is a sanity-saving, time-saving, fuck-🖕🏻-zuck, tip:

INVERT.

  • Begin your session by hyper-rapid scrolling for a fixed count of your choice. As fast as your device can load content. Do not stop to watch.
  • Browse backwards until you reach the top.

    • This prevents the algorithm from being able to predict your actions and stagger content that is genuinely interesting to you in order to keep you scrolling indefinitely like a donkey on a motherfucking treadmill 🥕

    You will know in advance how many ads are placed in the stream, and how often to expect them.

    The information that the algorithm can gather from you is severely impacted, and it most certainly cannot act on it during this session.

    It also limits your investment of time, energy, and focus, to just the preloaded content, short-circuiting doom scroll, and protecting your wellbeing.

    Eventually, if enough people do this, Meta will adapt, but for now, this technique can be used to subvert the inhumane use of human psychology deployed by Meta. Tell anyone it can help.

    @noondlyt @patmikemid I was kind of horrified when I realized that the obituary pages at the funeral home that took care of my mom and my brother were connected to Facebook. I think the funeral home notified Facebook of my brother‘s death because I know I didn’t do it as the personal representative, but someone did.

    The part that freaked me out was that I wasn’t able to respond to comments on his obituary page after the first day or two because he had me blocked on Facebook when I deleted my facebook account a year or two before he died. The funeral home was able to go unblock me so I could communicate with the people trying to communicate with me there, but it was weird as hell.

    And the weird part for me was that I had a different phone, but I guess the same Internet service, from when I deleted Facebook to when I was typing on the obituary page. To make an entry there it asks for your name and email address but I wasn’t using the same one I used on Facebook. So I don’t even know how it knew it was me trying to reply to people on the obituary page.

    But why TF is a funeral home website so connected to Facebook that it would block people blocked on facebook??

    For those of us who are forced to still use #WhatsApp FYI there's a setting where you can go in each chat and you go to group info (if a Group chat, or View Contact if not) and then set Advanced Chat Privacy and switch it on.
