My Discord Nitro has finally expired. With all the #Age_verification crap going on, I'm no longer supporting them going forwards.
The fallout from losing Nitro is that I FORGOT HOW UGLY THE DEFAULT LOOK IS! I'd been using my own color scheme for so long that I had no idea how wretched Discord looks by default.
Oh well, That's just more motivation to continue moving away from Discord as much as possible.
ROFL Discord doesn't get it, I hope this shit kills them because Discord is diabolical with how stupid they are being.
What's worse this video also covers other bills and schemes that are trying to reveal the identities of all people on any operating systems...It's fucking disgusting. Colorado folks, you need to fight this garbage hard!
Another thing I like that I see from Fluxer is the ability to self host.
They definitely need a Fedi presence, though. I'll email their support and give them a friendly nudge.

Looks like Discord is now rolling out mandatory re-verification for UK users who already verified their age. I was already verified so they already have my data, but I'm questioning whether to just do it again or refuse in protest

It is useless to build the perfect technological FOSS & private alternative if people aren't culturally and socially predisposed to use it. Think network externalities, peer pressure... but also the influence of capital on people, via marketing and brand associativity.
Don't get me wrong. I'm so very glad places like Mastodon exist. But they are just a foundation. The direct action needs its cultural counterparts. It's Gramscian:
* War of Maneuver is the things you do as a direct affront to the system, physical or otherwise (like licensing your projects under the CNPL or GPL, enacting strict anti -trust legislation, incentivizing cooperatives and decommodification).
* War of Position is how you reorient and predispose people towards more productive outcomes, especially culturally. This is what we LACK.
Get people on Stoat (former Revolt). Campaign for it if you must. Not because it's perfect, no, not at all. It's the onboarding. It's a temporary solution. It gives people breathing room from the failures of Discord and Telegram, and renews their sense of a better future being possible. The better ecosystem will bake in the oven, until we are ready to bring them over. Plant the seeds of a free Internet one step at a time.
This is the human side of the technological operation... like I said, the War of Position.

Discord seems to have suddenly swapped from k-id as an age verification provider to Persona. I'm unsure if this is an A/B thing or if they have suddenly changed internationally. If it is a sudden change, I wonder if maybe there has been a second data breach, this time at k-id, because what other reason would they have to suddenly jump providers like this...
