React-like syntax with WebComponents.

After spending some time with Lit, I really appreciated its lightweight footprint but wasn't a fan of the class-based components. While Vue offers a great approach, I still prefer the intuitive nature of React's syntax for debugging and deterministic rendering. This led me to a challenge: could I build a UI framework using WebComponents that completely eliminates the need for transpilation?

I have written a breakdown of the concept, the architecture, and where I want to take it. I highly invite you to take a look, check out the code, and explore the live demo.

* How it works: https://positive-intentions.com/docs/projects/dim/dim-jsx-webcomponents
* Checkout the code: https://github.com/positive-intentions/dim
* Storybook demo: https://dim.positive-intentions.com

Please note, while the project is open-source, this is a personal exploration rather than an attempt to launch "yet another framework." It is not production-ready and is built for my own upcoming project migrations, but I am sharing it in hopes that the methodology is educational or interesting to the community.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this approach. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to discuss the implementation details.

Kevin Wagner asks: Is AI causing a repeat of Frontend’s Lost Decade? https://kpwags.com/posts/2026/is-ai-causing-a-repeat-of-frontends-lost-decade/
React was the worst thing to ever happen to web development. Until, AI came along. Both are anti-labor, de-skilling, fascist artifacts. #FuckAI #WebDev #FrontendDev

(💜 Marielle) I have a question, and it's a bit far-fetched, but IDK where else I would find this: does anyone know of a TypeScript library (or a JavaScript library with type declaration files) that can

1. generate an abstract tree representing rendering elements using helper functions or JSX/TSX,
2. sends the representations to a destination (it cluld be a renderer if it's on the browser or a CLI-based app or a websocket on the server) that subscribes to the UI stream,
3. has a concept of components and component parameters (props) and state, and
4. can react to inputs from the destination of the UI stream?

I'm asking because Ember (a custom client I'm working on) is having some growing pains that prevent me from working on features for my system and features I need as a moderator/admin. Laravel Livewire and inertia.JS are the closest I found, but I'm looking for something that is agnostic to whether it is running on the browser or the server because I want to integrate it into Ember's front-end before decoupling the current front-end code from the new rendering code and moving it to the new server-side code.

Also, "try looking on NPM" or "switch to <other language>" are not answers; I'm looking for actual library / framework recommendations. Boosts are fine, since I don't think I'll get many answers.

Testing in Safari can be an expensive ordeal thanks to Apple only supporting the browser on their platforms. Over on Frontend Masters, I wrote about testing in Safari without spending a small fortune.

Good luck on non-Apple devices! You may want to try remote hardware or an online service. Or go refurbished and try to keep the cost down.

I miss focusing on the front end. Trying to do all the things is hard and it cuts into the time available to do great things with either side.

When I build websites, the first tool I reach for is Web Origami, made by @JanMiksovsky. It is a brilliant way to manage data and content, transforming it as necessary. Vale.Rocks and most of my other sites are completely built upon it.

Job I've been interviewing for did not work out, but it reminded me to post that I'm looking for my next opportunity! I work on the front of the front end, especially with semantic HTML and increasingly modern CSS, and I'm a huge advocate for accessibility. A good design system makes me swoon. Currently director level for a web team but would love to get back to my coding roots. My React is rusty but I can pick that back up, no problem. Let's do this! 👨🏼‍💻
