Out Of The Background by Francy Boland, released on SABA in 1967.

Wow! We've always gone on record as liking pianist Francy Boland as part of his big band with drummer Kenny Clarke, but here on this classic Saba/MPS session, the pair wail together in a smaller quartet format – with great help from Jimmy Woode on bass, and Fats Sadi on bongos. The record is incredible, and swings with a groove that's a lot harder than you'd expect from a small group like this. Sadi is especially great, and his bongos really make the cuts wail along nicely! Most cuts are tight little groovers, with a tight modal jazzy sound – as you'd expect from MPS in the classic years. Great cuts include "Dark Eyes", "Dia-Bleu", "Wolf-Gang", and "Father Klook", but the whole album's great! - Dusty Groove

Mark Murphy / Midnight Mood (1968); An elegant, atmospheric jazz album that combines Mark Murphy's unmistakable voice with first-class arrangements. Recorded in Cologne and accompanied by European jazz greats such as Francy Boland and the Clarke-Boland Big Band, Murphy moves effortlessly between swinging pieces and melancholic ballads. Two highlights of this outstanding work are ‘Why and How’ and ‘Sconsolato’. #MarkMurphy #KennyClarke #FrancyBoland #Jazz #CoolJazz #JazzSinger #Vocal
