Asimov's books span a thousand years. No way to adapt that to a television serial format, so the story was modified/adapted for the format. Goyer and others took the essential elements of Asimov's story and wove a new narrative around it, while maintaining the critical pivot points of the novels that drive the story forward.
I think they've done an amazing job and made the first sci fi books I read into an elegant television series.

I'm only just (2y later) finding out about #Foundation being televised. I'm equal parts excited and nervous to watch it. It'll be amazing if they can pull off the sheer scale of the books.
