L’ultima conferma arriva da quanto riportato dal Wall Street Journal, secondo cui l’amministrazione americana guidata dal tycoon, evidentemente convinta che la guerra rappresenti un’opportunità economica, starebbe valutando un significativo ampliamento della produzione industriale nel settore della difesa.
Per farlo, rivela il quotidiano statunitense, si starebbe considerando il coinvolgimento diretto di grandi gruppi manifatturieri civili, in particolare del comparto automobilistico, nella produzione di sistemi e forniture militari.

Contrariamente a quanto si potrebbe pensare, l’idea non è rimasta sulla carta. Sempre secondo il Wall Street Journal, funzionari di alto livello del Pentagono avrebbero già avviato un dialogo con i vertici di alcune importanti aziende statunitensi, tra cui Mary Barra di General Motors e Jim Farley di Ford Motor Company, per chiedere loro di contribuire al rafforzamento della capacità produttiva nazionale in ambito bellico.
Un progetto di riconversione industriale su larga scala che servirebbe, almeno secondo quanto trapela, a riempire di armi e munizioni i depositi del Pentagono, rimasti quasi a secco a causa delle numerose operazioni militari condotte dagli Stati Uniti in diverse aree del mondo.

The latest confirmation comes from a report by the Wall Street Journal, according to which the American administration led by the tycoon, evidently convinced that war represents an economic opportunity, is considering a significant expansion of industrial production in the defense sector.

To do this, the U.S. newspaper reveals, consideration is being given to the direct involvement of large civilian manufacturing groups, particularly the automotive sector, in the production of weapons and military supplies.

But what Nobel Peace Prize does Trump arm the U.S. to the teeth, asking automotive companies to convert production in favor of Defense?

Contrary to what one might think, the idea has not remained on paper. According to the Wall Street Journal, high-level Pentagon officials have already initiated a dialogue with the leaders of several major U.S. companies, including Mary Barra of General Motors and Jim Farley of Ford Motor Company, to ask them to contribute to strengthening national productive capacity in the military sphere.

Many investors barely scratch the surface of leadership incentives when considering investments. But despite the lack of attention, executive incentives and compensation are crucial for investors to pay attention to because they are what align management and shareholder interests for the long term. By tying compensation to long-term metrics, it assures investors that executives are focused on sustainable and valuable growth, rather than pushing aside important research-and-development costs to focus on short-term earnings, as one example.

With that as the context for Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) investors, how should they feel about CEO Jim Farley's pay raise to the highest in his tenure, after the automaker set a historic recall figure just last year? When the book closed on 2025, Farley's total compensation jumped almost 11% to $27.5 million, the highest since he took over as CEO in late 2020. Here's the kicker: The surprising driving force behind the pay raise was tied to quality metrics, despite a record number of recalls that have raised the company's costs in the past and even dinged earnings unexpectedly.

Ford is working to improve initial quality to reduce warranty costs. Management says it is doing this with thorough and rigorous predelivery inspections, more testing of crucial components until failure, and incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to more efficiently find manufacturing defects. By all accounts, significant progress is being made. Nonetheless, the company's stock declined 13% over the past decade while the S&P 500 more than tripled. And despite internal indicators suggesting improved quality, its recalls remain alarmingly elevated, some evidence from J.D. Power points to inconsistent quality, and its CEO is being compensated at a higher rate than ever. The optics aren't great, and long-term shareholders have a right to be a bit frustrated. Ford needs to turn this around, and soon.
